question on boost and temperature...

i've read in a couple different threads that if you exceed what your turbo can handle that even with more boost you'll be creating and pushing hot air which won't help EGT's at all. how far can you push the stock turbos? you can see in my sig what i'm running. the boost fooler gets me around 40 psi. will that be enough to disapate the heat or am i at the point of pushing hot air? i ask this because if i'm pushing hot air then it may be time to start looking in to a bigger turbo.

When you get a bigger turbo your getting more air as well as boost. Higher boost pressures don't always mean lower egts. It's about how much (CFM) your turbo is putting out. A higher a CFM a turbo puts out it usually makes more boost.

It is true that you can reach a point where you get so much more air out of a turbo that it is not efficient.

Even on your stock turbo 40psi is not as efficient as it is at 32psi. The problem is that at 40psi the turbo is not that for out of its optimal range and it will definately cool better at 40 than 32 especially if you are adding extra fuel.

You really have to get a turbo out of whack for the effects of more boost to be negative. Also remember that even if the air charge exiting the turbo is hotter than optimal your intercooler is going to cool it near ambient until you reach the limits of the stock intercooler.

I was getting 45-47psi out of my stock turbo. I had a first version of the Juice and was only getting about 38psi. I sent it in for a newer version and when I hooked it back up I was seeing the 45-47psi. My egts didn't change - good or bad. The Juice, exhaust, and intake are all I had on the truck at the time.

I put the QZ boost fooler on and egt's went down. Was running *550 degrees or so at 80mph, now I'm around *450-500 degrees at the same speed. Intern more boost, lower egt's.
