Brett, if you aren't towing and you can control your right foot I would set the smarty on #9 to get the best mileage. Timing is the key to fuel economy. I have not checked mileage with the new software but I can get 20+ with the beta's and so far the 4.2 is best and I'm sure it is because it has more timing than the 4.4, I also agree with the statement above, my truck gets better fuel mileage at 70 than 65. You just have to watch your guages close and find the sweet spot for your truck.

My experience leads me to believe the standard Smarty program is much better (best mileage) if you drive in city traffic most of the time. The mild and wild torque management tunes give so much power down low (harder fueling at lower RPMs) they can really eat up fuel in stop-n-go traffic. I have tried a variety of programs (different torque management tunes and levels 3-9) and can easily see a 1-2 mpg drop using the mild/wild torque management tunes. I drive very conservatively, try not go to above 65MPh, and take off slowly. I average around 17mpg (standard torque management using SW#9) in my '06.

My opinion - if you are driving mostly in the city, stick with the standard Smarty program (choose the appropriate SW# for your tranny). But, if you do mostly highway driving, hook yourself up with the mild or wild torque management tunes and enjoy the ride.

i told myself(friend) ill buy the smarty, and itll pay for itself in 15k miles...well if anything its cost me more money.(obviously more supporting mods) by that i mean more fuel...not just from hot rodding it.

im almost at wits end with it. im tempted to drive over it and get something from quadzilla or even worse edge(for some reason i dont like them???) or maybe a superchip

I got a superchips I'll sell ya

it has the new program downloaded into it and it will be tested soon. i think im going to but a 110 gal diesel tank and just not worry about it any more. itll give me a range of approx 2500 miles before needing fuel

brett
yes, 75 has a alight advantage compared to 70. 80+ drops realy quickly

I completely agree, just not willing to use standard smarty over beta 4.4...and i drive a lot of city so my mileage isn't going to impress anyone.

aftermarket inj. program has less timing so it will hurt your mileage. Do you have the 410 beta from bob? If not, get a hold of bob and see if he'll send it to you. It has more timing than the current 411

I don't just think the Smarty alone would increase your mileage that much. Thats an extra 102 miles out of each tank. I know that that is extremly impressive. Expecially 19mpg out of an auto with 4.10's. My 2500 with 3.73's and 6speed I have to drive like a grandma to get 20. Most the time I average 18mpg.
Mileage is relative.
If a break in period will cause your mileage to go up x amount, and you use a performance enhancer (Suchas Smarty) and you see a signifigant increase all at once as I did after installing it, you can be relatively sure that increase came from the enhancement.

Especially since as time goes on, my mileage is increasing.

I do not have near the mileage on my truck as some others here do, I'm currently at 4000 miles. My latest trip yielded 19.5 MPG.

I do not attribute the extra .5 MPG to Smarty, and I still maintain that the Smarty gave me an additional 3 MPG.

Good luck with your endeavors, whatever they may be.
