Question for all you Smarty Cheerleaders
Lot of people see a increase in millage when towing because with the extra fuel and boost you can pull in OD which slows down the engine which = better milage
My increase in fuel mileage wasn't that big.
Personally, I got 3 MPG increase.
Before my Smarty, I was at 16 MPG unloaded, and I went up to 19 MPG unloaded.
It was actually at about 20%.
And as far as explaining it, I don't have to explain it. I'm not selling the programmer, I am however sharing my personal experiences with the product, and just because I don't know the ins and outs of how the programmer nets me these gains, doesn't make the gains negligible. The fact in my case remains that the gains are there. Perhaps you should "Borrow" a Smarty from a friend in your area (If they are willing) and report back on your mileage experience.
That way, if you still have doubts, they are based on your real world experience, and you don't have to rely on the "Hearsay" of this board.
How many miles where on your truck before you put the smarty on? Also what kind of miles are on it now. You will see after so many miles the truck will break in and get better fuel mileage. I don't just think the Smarty alone would increase your mileage that much. Thats an extra 102 miles out of each tank. I know that that is extremly impressive. Expecially 19mpg out of an auto with 4.10's. My 2500 with 3.73's and 6speed I have to drive like a grandma to get 20. Most the time I average 18mpg.
I haven't seen any improvements on fuel mileage with the Smarty. Of course, I didn't buy it for the sole purpose of a fuel mileage increaser. If I wanted to increase my fuel mileage, I would lower, not lift the truck, put taller, skinny tires on it, and drive at a max of 63 MPH.

I haven't seen a gain yet, but I have taken a loss. It's only temporary of course because right now I'm flogging it and trying the different softwares(new owner this week). I had a XZT before and that did give me a 1 mpg increase with mixed driving. It's like telling someone who is looking at a Hemi truck or car, what mileage will I get? I tell them 13-16 AFTER your first month with it. I got 16 mpg mixed before anything. Added muffler, air box mod, and XZT and started getting 18 mpg. Am hoping for improvement after I get the appropriate SW and ease up on it a bit.

Some ppl with 06s don't have near 100,000 miles, which IMO is the main break-in point for the 5.9 Cummins, the further the truck gets, the better it should perform. Also, it will certainly depend on driving habits. I wouldn't be too mad if I got 60+ hp and didn't lose any mileage. Give it some time.
I have a smarty on my 06 and it did help my mileage out by 2-3 mpg hand calc. I have had it on since around 10k miles on the odometer and now I have 20k miles and it is still helping my mileage better than it would be with out it. I am just running the regular program that came on the smarty when I bought it brand new.
Good to know mm73. Nobodys results are gonna be the same, especially with everyone living in the 50 states and Canada, etc. Driving habits, mods, tires, maintenance, etc all will affect each others performance.
my best results are 4.4 on #9 with about 3 deg extra dialed in on the tone ring
right at 2k rpm you'll see where the timing map realy changes. i can drive at 1900 and feed it just enough fuel to slowly accellerate and as i cross the 2k mark you can watch the egt's drop almost 150-200 deg. for me this works out to about 75 mph being my optimum speed for road trips or best comprimise. i do get a bit better economy at 55 (who can do that?) and worse at 70.

it has the new program downloaded into it and it will be tested soon. i think im going to but a 110 gal diesel tank and just not worry about it any more. itll give me a range of approx 2500 miles before needing fuel

Brett, keeping it around 1800 rpms (range of 1750-1900) for most trucks yields the best mileage, all other things equal. For sure, the 2000 rpm mark seems to be the deal breaker where mileage drops significantly. That is just a rule of thumb that works regardless of tire size, gearing, speed in mph, and etc.
