Question about blowing black smoke

I tried searching around for some articles, but didn't find much out there, maybe I'm just new to this.

Anyways, I like the idea of blowing black smoke. I'm looking into boxes, and the different boxes seem to produce different amounts of smoke and all that.

Now my question is what box will bellow the most black smoke. I'm cutting the cat and muffler off so I know that will help out. However, which box out there will be safe on the transmission and other components, but still bellow lots of black smoke

Thanks for the help guys, much appreciated

What year truck, what other things have you done? Do you have gauges?

With the Smarty, if you were behind me on the road you'd need to slow to until you had visibility again (if I romp on it).

There isn't much out there that is "safe" for the auto, depending on your driving habits. You may consider getting gauges and saving up a little for a valve body and TC upgrade before adding power......

Smarty. My 2006 didnt smoke at all stock or with XZT. I thought the newer trucks just didnt smoke much because of the catalytic so I didnt really believe the reports the Smarty smoked thick black smoke. Then I got one and it smokes super thick black smoke if you want it to(lots of throttle with no boost). I have an auto, a manual trans would really smoke alot. I am on level #5 and it smokes alot if you try.

Smarty will smoke if you want it sometimes even when you don't!

Part of the question was "safe for transmission and other parts".

In my opinion, there is no "safe for transmission and other parts". The smoke is accomplished largely by lugging the engine-- giving lots o' fuel with little or no boost. This can cause egts to soar. This puts strain on engine internals. Not necessarily hard on the tranny, but I'm not going to say it is OK either. If you're going to do this, it is best to monitor your egt gauge and try not to put too much strain on all else. It won't be the Smarty or other power adders' fault if something breaks!!

Thanks for the replies guys, I been looking for awhile for some good help. As for the gauges I will have those in before I get any kind of tuner, after cutting the cat and muffler off those are my next mods.

As for the transmission, this TC and VB upgrade, you need to pull the transmission in order to do these things correct.

My biggest fear is breaking something large. I hear the trucks can hold the boxes on 60-75 hp ratings pretty well and don't give much problem.

Anyways, you are all saying that the smarty is going to be the best route to go if I wanted the truck to smoke.

Also sorry again, 2005 silver cummins quad cab.

Smarty will black out the sky if I lug it... Sometimes, that's a good thing, sometimes, that's a bad thing. I do wish there was an on-the-fly adjustment....

So it seems pretty substantial here that the smart would be the route to go and I'm not going to have to worry about a junky tuner. I read all the time that people LOVE their smarties.

Anyways, I've researched the Quad pretty extensively and see there are a bunch of different levels. Which levels does the smarty come with? What levels are same for the transmission? Is there a setting that will get the best gas mileage? How much does the smarty cost

Blowing black smoke is a sign of inefficiency. You are blowing fuel out the tail pipe, plus the overall effect on the environment. If you are going to put the fuel into the engine, you might as well burn it to turn it into power, rather than blowing it out the tailpipe. That is where more efficient turbos come in. Better to be clean and powerful than smokey and slow.

Actually more of a climate change thing. But I also hate the inefficiency.
