Pyro temp Warning light???
Pyro temp Warning light???
Hello all, I'm prob. going to be ordering a complete gauge package for my rig, and was wondering if anybody makes a Pyro warning light set up?? I have auto meter gauges and warning lights in my cars, and the warning lights will come on at a certain temp to let you know that your getting close to dangerous temps.
I was wondering if anybody made something like this for our trucks, would be nice to have like a red LED or something come on at a certain temp to let you know your EGT's are getting up there. I know alot of people will say, just watch the gauge, and this is why I have them in my cars, so you dont have to keep staring at the gauge, you set the warning a few degrees before max, and the light will come on to let you know your getting up there.
Thanks for any info!!

the dakota digital and spa have upper limit alarm settings... both are digital.
i don't think anyone makes an analog one, but i suppose you could make one with a relay, transistor, zener diode and a thermalcouple... it would need to be a relay that triggers off a low voltage/amperage signal, and adjustable, so you could calibrate the probe output at a set temprature to trigger the relay to set off a light or alarm..
[edited to add transistor & diode]
i guess you would need to find the right zener diode to crack at the voltage that is outputted by the thermal couple at say ~1250f.. feed that power to the transistor and use it to trigger the relay [could be a standard automotve relay]
temp goes above that point and the alarm sounds, below that the voltage gets blocked, the relay drops out and alarm stops
