Thumbs down Pusher Pumps

Has anybody had as bad of luck as I have with there holley blue pumps??? I'm on my third pump and it just died yesterday. I've gone through my setup and double checked every possible reason for failure. A new pump will last me about 3 to 4 weeks and then it just shuts off. If I tap the pump with a soft hammer it turns back on but once shutting off the truck and restarting it fails to turn on. Am I just getting a couple lemon pumps???

I had really good luck with mine on my 1999 CTD.

How do you have your's plumbed up? What size lines are you using? How's your fuel filter look?

Some more info would be great, as well as on your truck. Maybe fill in your signature?

Wow didn't I'd get a quick reply. I've got -6 line run from the tank foward. I'm probably behind on my fuel filter change, maybe at 20,000 miles. With blue pump running i see between 20 to 23psi at idle and about 15 to 18 on the hwy. Does this help any?

Do you have it mounted back by the tank?

PS - get some pics posted, that should be one sweet looking rig!

Those numbers seem high for a Holley Blue.

I have one on my truck right now testing the Scotty Max Flow System and I have 14.5 at idle, 12 at cruise, I can pull it to just above 6 at WOT for a few seconds and quick recovery to 10 and then 12 again as I level off on the throttle.

I am running the old edge 6 level EZ. I know that CTDKLONE had a dud pump on his truck recently, changed it out and the new one is running fine.

I am also running -8 from the Holley mounted on the frame on that tie down hole to an adapter going into the factory fuel filter canister and again to the injection pump. I replaced the two banjos with custom metric to -8 JIC fittings.

Are you running the stock pump in front of it too?

Scotty

yes Scotty, i am running the stock pump too. it puts out 7.5psi stock and the blue pump puts out about 14, so 20-21 shouldn't be to hard to see. What kinda psi does that scotty maxflow put out???

One of my buddies has the same exact truck, with the same exact set up fuel wise and 8 months later he has never had a problem with his pump. Wierd....

Maybe your stock pump isnt letting it push the fuel like it should, and is making it work harder, and fail quicker?

BigBlkCummin, I posted the numbers I am getting above.

I am not fond of a double pump set up. One will always be working against the other unless they are matched very close.

However, some folks will say different as they have had great luck with a double set up. All the attempts I made with two pumps created a failure/restriction that did not surface completely until both pumps failed.

Are you tapping into the existing wiring for the Holley from the stock pump? You may not be supplying enough juice to run both pumps properly that way...too much load.

Some have done a relay...Banshee on here has.

Two more weeks and I will be releasing the Scotty Max Flow.
Waiting for fittings.

i got what you're saying Scotty, I didn't realize your not running a double setup. I'm running a relay also, i may try setting it up to a swicth so i can turn it on after the truck has started. Thinking about it i don't understand how you take 14 psi and push it against a pump that only puts out 7 to 8 psi without burning out. I've heard good things about the red holley but i don't know if they will hold enough psi when i craank up the tst.

For the record-- the above Aeromotive pump is rated for 2000 hrs continuous use, rated for diesel, and Coast Guard approved for Marine applications.

It will flow 600lb-hr at 45psi!

With the matching regulator (which references boost), I can have an endless supply of fuel adjustable from 3-15psi.

I'm thinking the truck would be happy with a constant 11-12 psi.
