Programmer and tranny questions

I have tried searching and reading many threads, but I'm still lost. I have the BDTD downloader and recently switched to 35" tires on my 06 auto. I'm putting down more power than stock and with bigger tires, so I have two questions:

1. What do I need to buy to reprogram my ECU for bigger tires? Why can't my bullydog do this? If I need another programmer which one would work well with BD?

2. What should I do to upgrade my tranny to handle the extra torque? Would just getting a stronger torque converter be sufficient?

Thanks.

1) Smarty can reprogram for tire size. I think its about the only way to re-calibrate for tires as large as yours. Bullydog would have to go.

2) Tq converter/valve body would be good.

Thanks. Why would bullydog have to go? I guess I could sell it if it does.

Smarty only reprograms for tire size if its downloaded on your truck. Its a programmer just like the Bullydog..can't have 2 programmers.

That makes sense. But now I'm confused about what "stacking" is. I thought that was using 2 programmers together.

Modules- plug in boxes that alter factory computer signals to make power.

programmers- reprogram the factory signals to make more power.

with each of these, they can make power with timing, duration, or pressure.

You can stack 2 modules safely as long as they don't modify the same thing (ie XZT stacked with an EZ; both are rail pressure boxes)

You can stack a programmer and a module....or in extreme cases two modules and programmer.

However, because of the nature of a programmer, (reprograms the truck's computer) you can not stack 2 programmers....since you can obviously only have one program in your truck.

I know! I wish it could adjust for my 295's.

the Smarty is the only programmer that will adjust for tire size on these trucks.

How is the tuning/performance? Why cant a company put all the options into one tuner? I like how you can change other options with the triple dog but I need my speedo changed also. They need to add some features to the Smarty.

Do you know if once you set your tire size with the Smarty, and you put your truck back to stock to remove the Smarty....if it changes that factor?

If some silly reason I ever wanted to sell my Smarty (don't worry it ain't happening).....would my tire size have to go back to the stock size? Mine was reset by the dealer when i got 285s, but im just curious about that question. I may go up to 35s next set of tires....so naturally I would use the Smarty to reset the factor.

I got mine recalibrated at the dealer ($30) but have heard that for some reason that they can't do it on the 06s. Might want to call and check.

Thank you, that is some good information that clears things up for me . I thought it might have been possible to stack 2 programmers if they changed different parameters. Now I want to find out why my bullydog can change tire sizes for Chevy but not Dodge and why a dealership can't do it. If Smarty and Superchips can do it, they all should be able to do it.

Yes mine does too...but the max they can program is roughly a 33" or something like that....theres a limit to how big they can adjust for. I forget exactly what it is. Some dealers will charge a $100 to do this.
