Phat Shaft 62 Question???

I just installed my new turbo, and was wondering how to adjust the wastegate. I was told the instructions would be included, but looked for them and they were not in the box. I'm seeing right at 39-40lb, just like they set the wastegate at 40# I'm just wanting a little more to reduce my smoke further. I'm thinking about 45-47lb. Please help.

If its just a phat shaft 62 then 40 is about all you want it at.
After 40lbs your just going to be making hot air.

Well, Industrial told me when I bought it, that it was good to bout 50lb. and anything over that would be a waste so I'm just going bye their tech info they gave me. I can't call them till monday, so I would like to know before then.

Good as in it wont hurt to move it up to 50lbs but will it give you more power?
Maybe but maybe not.

If its a "super" phat shaft 62 then I would bump it up.

I am more on the page of letting your fuel dictate your boost and only make adjustments if you have too much boost (to go lower).

Thumbs up

Street,

Take off the C-Clip at the wastegate. Lengthen the actuator rod. Try a turn or 2. You probably will need shop air to move the actuator rod so it goes back on the wastegate. You will see what I mean. If the turbo is mounted already this might be tough to do.

An easier thing to try is replace OEM the 90° boost elbow (the brass one on the compressor housing w/ the little set screw) with a straight through one. This should open the wastegate earlier.

EDIT: these direction are to make the wastegate open earlier, or less boost.

Yep, it's already mounted. And seeing how I got rid of the factory boost elbow a long time ago, that won't work either. Yes, I do belive it will make more power, cause I'm still getting some thick dark grey smoke trailing behind me at WOT.

Red face

Street,

I miss-read your post this morning. I thought you wanted less boost. I was ½ asleep.

Well, I did what you told me over the phone Twest. I tried 1/4 turn 1st: nothing. So I went another 1/4-3/8 turn and still only 39-40lbs boost. I stopped there in case of innacurate readings. However, it does sustain it now, instead of bleeding down to 34#. Is it possible my Edge monitor for some reason just ain't reading anything higher? I have never seen over 39# on the display even with the factory turbo. Or do I just not have enough fuel/load to get it there?

Ooops.....

If you dont have a manual gauge then your readings will only show up to 39-41lbs of boost.
I bet you are way over that.
Get a manual boost gauge in there ASAP.

The factory intake sensor is only good up to 39-41lbs give or take a couple lbs.

That is probably the "issue" you are having.

I can hit way over 60lbs on my dipricol gauge and my TST that connects to the factory sensor only shows 39 or 40 lbs

Gotcha!!! 10-4 good budy! Just went out and backed her down where she was. Funy that the Edge display will read to 99lb though. Is there another sensor we can buy that will read higher pressures more accurately? Cause this really sux!!! I don't want to buy another manual guage unless I have to.

It's nothing to do with Edge they are simply getting the reading from the OEM Dodge sensor like everyone else does.

Sorry John,I should Have Ask If that was the Monitors Readings,Generally if sustain 38/40 Max Boost 3 to 5 higher, so that should put in 43/45 Max Boost.
