To get ready to haul a 5th wheel RV I want to make a few upgrade to my truck, a 2003 RAM 3500 diesel 4 speed automatic and a 3.73 rear. I would like to add a performance chip to add a little power and help improve the mileage; I also wanted to add some gauges to monitor the vital signs during towing.

I’ve been looking at either the “Banks EconoMind Diesel Tuner & iQ” and the “Edge Attitude with CTS”, since both of these have data readout displays I won’t have to install separate gauges. Does anyone have experience with either of these and what is your opinion on them, are they worth the expense?

 

The single best enhancemet for towing is the Smarty JR. It will provide the best dynamic timing which in return reduces EGT's, increases power, and increases MPG's..

Is your truck a SO or HO?

For gauges you should run Boost, Pyro, Auto Trans Temp. Analog gauges are more accurate anyhow.

 

Thanks for the reply, my truck has the standard engine (not the HO), does the Smart jr have a display or do you need to install multiple gagues?

 

The Jr does not have a display, so you will need multiple gauges, but like I said they are more accurate and easier to read.

The Jr will also take your SO motor and make it a HO, then add the power from there.. So SW1 on the Jr takes you up 100hp, and will provide cooler EGT's and better mileage.
