I have a fs2500 on my truck and run valvoline extreme blue full synthetic. I'm changing oil every 30K miles and the sample is still good, with low soot. The oil gets black after about 500 miles though.

Does anyone with the fs2500 have clear oil with a cummins? If so what kind of oil are you running?

Nothing you do to your 05' will stop the oil from getting black. Use a good oil and if you like a bypass filter and know that you are doing more than enough to help your engine. It'll probably outlive the truck that surrounds it.

My oil turned black almost immediately. It's because of the third injection event in our 3rd generation Cummins that creates more soot. A bypass system (Amsoil, Fass, Frantz, Etc.) will keep this soot (<2 microns) suspended in the oil and will not allow it to clump together as described above. Additionally the bypass filters filter down to approximately 2 microns which is much finer than OEM ( approximately 30 microns).

I have used the FS-2500 for about 50,000 miles and I'm happy with it. It's kinda like my Banks stuff, o.k. but I could have gotten the same or better with less money from somewhere else. And... the last sample I sent in I had to call for the results and they would get it in the mail right away. That was July and I still haven't got it, but thats not Filtration Solutions fault. I guess they use an independent testing company if you buy the sample kit through them. Just follow up and ask questions is my advice.

I have an FS2500 on the eng & tranny of my truck (sig) I can smoke like a frieght train and my oil is dark gray but it doesn't leave black on your hands when you wipe it off and thats the key. Esp the cummins makes alot of sub-micron soot but what hurts the engine is 5-10 micron which the fs2500 takes out absolute garantee 98.9999% at 2.8 mic. and more below that. I like it cuz you can treat your eng to high dollar synth and run it for??? I have a buddy with a wooped up Pstrk who burned up his turbo because his oil got too much soot in it and wore out the bearings. It dont matter how good your oil is if you fill it with soot it turns into lapping compound. With the fs2500 thats the last of my worries!Let the oil analysis tell you if it works! I ripped up a TCI tc ( dont get TCI) and the pan looked like I just cleaned it out and the fluid- like new. Put it on!!!!

I run the F/S 2500 and oil is black as soon as I fire it up. and yes black oil is fine, just have to use a good oil. I run Amsoil 15w-40 Heave Duty Diesle & Marine. My previous sample I sent in had 8,983 miles on it and the soot level was 1.2. that is really good still. I just sent another sample in with 17,600 on it and I am waiting for the reasults to come back. Anyway The F/S gose down to 2 micron filtration were as I also use A Amsoil filter in the stock location with is an Eao-80 p/n, only filters down to 15 microns.

Has anybody had trouble with the Amsoil dual remote bypass? I'm talking about the new one, not the old one that left the oil pressure too low. I installed one and it ran fine for a short time, then one morning, NO OIL PRESSURE :-O After checking pressure with a shop gauge , everything seems fine - no leaks, no kinking, no blockage, no damage to the hoses, nothing except possibly a failed main filter? I'm stumped and AMSOIL is not returning email! The unit fit nicely behind the front bumper outside the right frame rail. Removal and reinstall of a stock filter restored oil pressure to normal. Hopefully no lasting damage-
Mike

dont use the dual filter from amsoil they make a filter bypass just for this year truck which i use and love it the dual filter set will drop your oil pressure way down and it tells you on the web not for use on our year trucks. and if you do buy that go to tricounty machine web and they got a killer bracket for it love mine.

There is a new dual filter setup out for the new CR trucks. It's not two bypass filters, but a regular + a bypass. I've got one that I haven't installed yet, but it's for my year of truck. There's not suppose to be any oil pressure problems. Of course after reading 2wheelmike's post I'm not so sure.

I talked to a guy at Filteration Solutions this week, he said the product helps with the soot.... i don't know

The price he quoted me was $705+ shipping and would give a disc of $100 if i ordered on MON.

Sounds expensive, but I guess $600 is cheap compared to replacing engine/bearings sooner

Why would you spend that much when you could get the same results for around $100 or so?
