what is the pros/cons in adding/creating power with and without timing?
eg. smarty has same power levels with and without.
why would you want it with, and without timing?

From what I have experienced, timing is more low end torque.

 

From what I understand timing allows for more efficient use of the fuel (at the cost of emissions) so there is an increase in MPG. Also the timing lowers EGTs because more energy is released in the combustion chamber instead of the exhaust. This causes high piston temps but lower EGTs to the turbo.

Overall timing would product more power for a given boost....I think.

 

the option of with or without timing would also allow you to stack with other boxes....where in hawaii are you from?

Timing does exactly that, more heat used in the power stroke and less heat to the turbo, more efficient use of fuel for a given RPM/boost level which means higher potential MPG gain, excessive timing will destroy pistons though!!

No timing requires more fuel too burn, and results in higher egt's, lower piston temps, and potential of a loss of MPG.

The timing vs. No timing option of the smarty is too make a more widely stackable programmer, meaning if you wanna stack it with a module that adds timing....it is possible, rather than limiting your options for a stack like most other programmers do!

So, is the timing added from my xzt advanced so much that I need to be worried about my pistons? Anyone know how much the timing is advanced w/ the xzt?

 

I thought the XZT was mostly a pressure box and very little timing.

 

I don't know for sure, but if the statement about timing improving MPG is generally true, the XZT probably offers very little or no timing. I have a 5 MPG decrease with the XZT plugged in.

 

I will try to get Marco into this conversation. We were going over this yesterday. Marco has lots of great information.

not nearly enough timing to harm anything. i own an XZT.

 

I didn't think it was a whole lot, but I do notice a rattle that is louder vs. stock.
