Newbe - exhaust muffler suggestions
Brand new to this forum and to diesels. I have a 2006 cummins quad-cab. I have installed a AFE stage 2, f/r bumpers, and now want to open the exhaust by installing a new muffler. I have 4" factory, so was just going to install new muffler. However, I want flow without drone and excessive interior noise. What are you experiences and suggestions for performace mufflers without excessive noise.
I have read as many posts as I can and do not want a straight pipe, thinking about a magnaflow or corsa (expensive).
After the muffler I am adding gauges, tranmission pan and differential covers, and probably a tuner (Smarty, if I understand what I have read from you guy).
S0, suggestions???
Thanks, Steve

Welcome to DTR steve.
you can do a muffler delete and leave the cat on, changes the sound, but not too bad. get it here at the dtr store.
or you can buy a mbrp, magnaflow, aeroturbine, etc. the mbrp's are available at the dtr store too.
gauges, either analog or digital, personal preference mostly, but the new digital units allow you to control the performance modules as well.
smarty, yeah man! just watch the trans.

Welcome aboard Steve. Try using the search feature also as there is allot of information on this topic. If you'll fill in your signature and location there may be someone in your area able to let you hear their's first hand. Good to have you here!
A Donaldson or Nelson might be what you're looking for if you dont want any drone/interior noise. I went from the Aeroturbine 4040 straight-thru muffler to the Donaldson 51" straight-thru muffler.......so much better. The aero was killing me on long trips when towing because of the drone. The Donaldson is nice and quiet but has a good deep throaty sound outside of the truck...and you can hear the turbo threw the exhaust more....

Like Rd said, check out the Nelson mufflers, I have the 40" model and it's great, not much different than stock at an idle, nice throaty big rig sound when you get into it, and ne droan.
Also, I myself prefer analog gauges over the all in ones.
Pick yourself up a Bully Dog Triple Dog from the classifieds, you won't be disapointed and will have saved yourself a few hundred over a new Smarty.
