called tom and got lined out for the turbo I need. Now just waiting to get this one sold or returned. But, I also made 4 more calls to II. Turns out the turbo it shows I was sold from the other company isn't the one I ended up with. I talked to the owner, he said I got the 6280 crl in the 62/65 setup. I told him no way, and got him the turbo number and it ends up it is the 62/71. They kept telling me it was the right turbo, because on the form it showed the 62/65. So called where I got it and they are working on a possible return. But, at least we are moving in the right direction I suppose.

CrazyCooter, do those 22.5's work good? I was going to try and get 19.5's next year, but was told they can change the " gear ratio" of things to a point that mileage drops and the power curve can go awry. I have 19.5's on my 04.5 and never really noticed anything, but I had 33x12.5's on it before that.

Hope you can get what you need without a bunch more out of pocket. Sucks just having to do the job twice!

I liked the final drive ratio, MPG, and stability with the 22.5" tires with my manual trans until I got this bigger 5er. Everything was happy up to 23k GCVW, but when it got above that, I was in between 4th and 5th all the time in the hills on twisty roads. I then swapped my R&P to 4.10 and all is happy again at 30k+.

My truck weighs 10,400 as is daily driven, so spool time in hot weather and at altitude is very important to me. Getting all that rolling in traffic without smoke can be irritating with the wrong setup.

Glad you are moving in the right direction.

I will chime in on the 22.5's since I had them with an auto trans. I personally wouldn't do it again, ever. Even on my 06 when I could lock out OD it was still a pain to drive at certain speeds. With a manual it is a different story and I would listen to whatever CrazyCooter has to say but it looks like you have an auto and so did I, not a good combo for working. It also adds a ton of unsprung weight to the truck and rolling resistance, and even with 750-800 hp to the ground it robbed me of a ton of usable power.

Good luck, and Tom will have you smiling ear to ear!

Agreed on the un-sprung weight. It felt like I lost 60hp when I put them on. It might require 4.56's with an auto running 22.5's and work the truck hard like I do with the manual. The auto's OD ratio would work against you in that application.

Direct bolt 19.5's would be a major improvement in the weight category. At the time I was buying, direct bolt 19.5" wheels were only available in a 6" width allowing a max recommended tire width of 225. Now they can be gotten in 6.75" widths allowing a larger tire....265/70R19.5's come to mind.

I have thought about putting the stock tires back on to see what it feels like now.....

good to know on the tires guys. much appreciated. I just put on some Toyo AT II's < pretty sure that's what they are called, about 3k ago. They have a 50k guarantee, so I will see how they work. I checked my 19.5's on my other dodge today, they are just at 40k and still lots of tread.

As a follow up on the turbo discussion, They are swapping me out for the proper turbo. I couldn't work it for the Garrett, but I am much happier with this ending than having to be stuck trying to sell the existing one. It should be here Thursday. When I get it on, I'll do some driving, maybe hook on the backhoe and pull around. Give a review on it.

I never received a reply. Guess I will have to try calling them now. I have heard that II is not very good with customer service and their lack of response to my email just confirmed it.

jeephauler, did you ever get a reply?????

So, here's my update, got the turbo installed a while back, and been driving it nice getting it broke in. It is a ton better than the 62/71/14. it still spools fast up top and pushes as much top end boost, but is night and day difference as stated above, down low. It was a dirty ***** to get put in though. It was supposed to be the same as the one I took out, which I left the oil drain pipe on, and slipped out through the fender well. Tried putting the new one in the same way, and no amount of love or money would get it in there. Had to take the oil line off and install, which was even hard that way as the waste gate kept rubbing on the mounting bracket welded to the frame. After I did get it on, the intercooler connection is super close to the suspension mount, and is timed high in the air, so much I had to pull up the intake to get the intercooler and the turbo to line up, but I can't loosen the turbo and turn the housing down, it is almost completely touching the suspension bracket. And, the exhaust brake wouldn't mount back up, even with the exhaust loose from the mounts. I had to shave a little off of the actuator arm on the brake with a die grinder to get it to roll into place. But, when all was said and done, 6 hours later, it runs good. The only other complaint I have, is I spoke with II about the noise it is making, like a fuel knock when the injectors are going out, at certain throttle positions, and they said it is def. my cp3, judging from my other mods. so, after an 85% over cp3, it is still making the same noise. my injectors have less than 3k on them, so hopefully it isn't them. my cruise control surges when I have my mp8 turned up, so I'm leaning towards the PRV being very weak. but, I don't have a rail pressure gauge installed yet, so it's hard to say.

I still have not received a response. I had heard that II customer service sucks and even their dealers have a hard time working with them.

So you would definately reccomend the change? Do you have any specifics on the difference such as boost levels, EGTs, etc?

I don't have much on the specs yet, my tranny is getting a new torque converter put in under warranty and I only drove it for a week. During that week I was working on breaking it in But, I was still hitting 43-45 boost as with the other one, only difference is it starts spooling sooner and runs cleaner when leaning into the throttle. My seat of the pants dyno tells me it pulls a lot harder all around, but especially at 50 mph and above. Especially rolling into it aggressively, the other would smoke then go, this one eats it up putting the power down. My wife said it was a big difference even from the passenger seat. I wish I had some egt numbers. I have a 8k load going through the hills into Utah, but not til towards end of the month. Besides the turbo the new 5" exhaust should help also.

I just recently also installed a 5" and noticed a 150 degree decrease in EGTs. Sounds like I definately need to get my turbo reconfigured from your experience. I noticed it even harder to drive the turbo after the built tranny with a stall of 150 sooner went in earlier this year.

Guess I will get on the horn with II today and see if they can answer my question.

I just spoke with II and they told me about $850 to make the change. Needless to say that will not be happening. Guess I will wait to do a set of twins and then sell this one.

Man that's a chunk of change! Its too bad used turbos are so hard to sell. I forgot to ask the tranny guy today what stall mine is. But whatever the one put in today was it feels a lot better than the old one did.

The more I think about it, I may just end up sending it back to have it turned into something that will be good in a twins set up later down the road. It would also work better for me as a single than what I have now.
