New Test Drive results from edge....

ok i know another thread but bare with me and yes my truck is going onto a scanner on wednesday...Anyways after test drive i found out my black smoke is a light haze on stock. Gets more thick as i go up to level 6 but nothing severe. I did some testing today. I still hit high egts so i used a new pyro from edge. still same results(1400F at 60% throttle).So then i totally disconnected pyro and my screen just read 75F for a egt (because it was disconnected). and i could see a spurt of 35 psi for boost now on level 1 and it seemed to have more kick now because it wasnt defueling. only thing is its still running hot i know it.

i just got back from pinching air line about 80%. my boost only goes to 30 still. must have to pinch it all the way to totally take out the actuator out of the picture. Ill see when cummins scanner is put on it otherwise id say either preturbo PYRO is a dumb idea or id say that to run edge juice a person really needs a bigger turbo. Its crazy how fast my egts can rise. How long does it take you? If im empty and cruising along at 20km/hour i can mash pedal down half way and 3 seconds later i can hit 1400 and my alarm beeps on my attitude. (60% throttle) at 100% throttle i could probably hit 1600F in 4 seconds.I think I need a 70mm turbo or supercharger.

With my 05 I would tow my 12k toy hauler and the edge on 3 or 4 and I could go up almost any hill at or above speed limit without having EGTS like you have.

There is something wrong with your truck for sure. I stopped reading the other thread but I'll go back and check again. Possible injector issues?

thats what i mean? Ill see i guess when i get scanner on. tehre are no codes and truck runs great, no misses. exhaust is normal.

i agree like i have been saying. I have ran my Juice on 5X5 and ez on 3 and gettin on it in 3rd getting on the highway egts at most went to 1300 with everything in my sig

Sorry but the Edge, BD, Predator all have high EGT's. Try a Smarty or smarty Jr.

I'll bet anything you see lower EGT's and more power, I know I did

unless you've run the bdtd and experienced high egt's yourself, i wouldn't throw blanket statements like that around. mine has never caused what i would say are high egt's (never see north of 1100* unless towing/hauling heavy or racing) and know many more who would say the same.

I think its fine the 04.5 and up run alot hotter that the older ones due to the third injection cycle. One thing you can do is change the defuel point to a higher number or don't use the high levels. I even have egt issues with the turbo I have when its on level 6 but don't ever pass 1300 when on 5 or less. Good luck.

its doing this on level 1 or level 0 stock. I dont even use 2 or higher.

i do get 2 codes when i cycle key on and off. one was a low oilpressure other was a timing fan circuit.

Started out with the Edge programmer, then got the Bully Dog Crazzy Larry...now the Smarty and things have never been so great.

My experience:

Edge- Its was ok but lacked big power and to me seems like a nice mod for grandpa who wants a little more power but not too much.

Bully Dog- Crazzy larry made good power, but low end sucked plus EGT's would get a little high but my mods kept them manageable. Didn't like the fact there is only 3 settings to choose from plus it didn't take in account all the mods people make or get.

Smarty- Great low end response, way better EGT's, far more raw power than anything else I have had and best of all my mileage has gone up...alot! Even the overhead dash milaege is accurate now versus when I had my BD where it said i was getting 27mpg..lol

Sorry guys but Smarty rules around these parts

You must have some other underlying problem. In the 1/4, Edge hot cranked up and MP-8 at 70% I would hit 1300 deg. at the very end. With the Edge on 1 and everything else off and the air line pinched off, I could hit 39-40 PSI boost. This was all with a stock fuel pump, stock turbo, 4 in exhaust and stock air box. I assume you dont have a problem like a restricted exhaust or a dirty air filter. You are going to have a hard time finding the problem without trouble codes but maybe you have some sensor sending erroneous values to the ECM and it is changing the fuel timing, duration etc. By the way, I could have the Edge on 100hp and the exhaust was clear coming out the pipe once the turbo lit.
