Question New Smarty Question

Just got the smarty in yesterday.I am trying each program one at a time sw1 now on sw 3. The paper work I got with it says sw 3 is the highest safe setting for a stock automatic tranny. It is only 60 hp with timing.With my superchips I drove it hard on performance all the time with a claimed 130 hp 260 more on torque no disclaimer about not being safe for a stock tranny an I have had the superchips for almost two years. so why so low for the smarty. at this setting it is no where near as strong as the superchips especialy by the seat of the pants meter.Is it because or the moderate torque management it is shipped with or what. I am going to try all levels but wanted some thought on this. I bought it because of all the good reviews and I did alot of research. It does have more bottom end but up to a certain ponit and more timing rattle than the super chips,but I went to pass someone last night and the top end was just not as strong.Just some comparison to share and wanted some feed back on the best setting for a stock auto.

Put er on sw9 and control your right foot....
Also the smarty comes loaded with mild tq. management not moderate...

superchips is a joke. try to get ahold of beta 4.4 if you want some more on the top end

If your conservative, stay with level 3 for your stock trans health....that being said, sounds like you were using more power on the superchips....so try level 5....would stay with mild tq mgmt and no higher than level 5 or you're gonna need new trans parts

stay on level 3 or less until you get a tranny. i am in need of one and i am down to level 1. never went above 3. can't wait to get a tranny to open her up

I still do not understand how on the superchips no problem but with smarty you can not go over level 3 is it because of the torque management.so if i go to stock torque management i could go to sw 7 or higher to match the superchips on performance? still can't figure out the diffrence maybe some who have had it longer could enlighten me or know the ins and outs of this programer.matbe superchips does not do torque management.

Torque management does nothign but pull timing in shifts, which is easier on trans parts and slipping the "bands" in the tranny. If you wanbt to push your limits do it. When timing is pulled your motor does not create as much power so for that mili second you might go down about half on power. Kinda creates a "Lazy" shift. But then agian a lazy slow shift actually "slips" more material in the tranny. So which is better? IDK both will toast the tranny eventually.

Actually Torque Management limits the amout of fuel provided at low rpms in order to protect the stock drivetrain....that's why switching between the different tq mgmt settings on the Smarty Sr. has a night and day impact on throttle sensitivity / low end power....if you put the sr. on moderate or wild tq mgmt you get huge low end response....right now off the line....touchy throttle....as it's dumping the fuel....where as the stock tq mgmt will not allow that.....

In my opinion, if you want to use higher levels, use the stock tq mgmt files....if you want significantly better drivability / low end power....stick with the mild/moderate tq mgmt and level 3...maybe 5 conservative....if you dont want to worry about it, get your trans built and run wild 9

I'm guessing superchips doesnt alter the tq mgmt....as you dont hear any story's of it eating transmissions as you do with smarty or bully dog downloaders with the tq mgmt disabled / reduced

Also, the latest smarty files are real smooth and deceptive....they're actually pretty fast, you just don't feel it as much as the old software versions....try level 5 and mild tq mgmt...see what it does for you...

Dude, you are comparing smarty's lower level to superchips highest setting, put your smarty on sw9 and see what it does, they just tell you that you can safely run on sw3 for those people that go all out and floor it ever time they take off, you can run sw7 or 9 if you control your self,

I'm running level 5 on moderate. Throttle RARELY ever see's the floor, especially with all the ice on the road lately. If you're careful and drive like a sane person you can drive on the higher levels. I like mine on that level for "just in case" purposes (getting on the interstate with heavy traffic, morons with wannabe sports cars, etc.). My "just in case" doesn't happen very often though.

I ran my 03 on sw7 all the time, I had a ATS valve body in the tranny and thats it, I put the smarty on at 40,000 miles I traded it in with 100,000 miles, it was on sw7 all the time except for the few times it was on sw9, even will pulling my 5th wheel camper, Its just how you control your self

Just to let everyone know this is not bashing just some observations between the smarty and superchips before I get thrashed.Yes the off idle throttle is better in town more responsive in stop and go driving. just seems like at 1/3rd throttle the superchips would make the tires hunt for traction where as the smarty kind of takes off maybe more HP little less torque than the superchips? setting at sw5.On the highway at wot runs the boost hits 30# then drops and to 28# and wavers back and forth between the two. Yes egts are a lot lower hit maybe 1200. but does not put you back in the seat like the superchips did at wot on the highway.boost for it hit 40 to 42# then backed off to 30# and stayed steady there. yes egts hit 1500 but it pulled hard.agin no bashing just observation .at steady 80 mph egts and boost are the same for both products.so I think out of the box Smarty ver.4.11c 2.11a does not boost fool but superchips does?I would think this would account for the not being put back in the seat feeling at wot runs or just part throttle runs. agin this is on sw5 where superchips was on performance so 90 hp compared to 130. anybody tried stock tm aftermarket turbo (boost fooling) on sw 6 or 7? I might try this to get as close to superchips settings as possible and see if there is a noticable diffrence between the two. like I said previously no warning on superchips about the tranny on performance so do you think it will be ok on the tranny with my proposed settings for the smarty? Thanks again for all your replies, figured I could try to do some not to scientific comparisons since there are not any comparisons between smarty and superchips I could find. Thanks Mike
