New Smarty, now ????
I just got my smarty the other day and now i have got a few questions. I loaded the smarty on the truck on level 3 and i have now tried everything from 1-4 on the smarty, and it doesnt matter what setting it is on if i step down on it to pull a hill or go to pass someone it sounds like the clutch is slipping ( motor reving) If i put the truck back to stock it does fine, pulling my 24' stock trailer loaded with cattle it does fine, or my 30' gooseneck loaded with big round bales of hay it does fine, my truck has only got 42,000 miles on it. Is this normal for the smarty, or does my smarty need updated??? Just wondering what is going on, i know alot of guys on here are running the smarty on #3 and #5 with no problems. Any help would be greatly appreciated and maybe bob wagner or marcco can chime in with their ideas. Thanks
I ran mine hard on level 3 no problems then tried level 5 for one day clutch would not hold up.I think once you start slipping it your clutch's days are numbered. But that could be a good thing as after i replaced clutch things are great running the highest level without a problem. Besides its only a matter of time before you want more.
I'm running that same program and SMOKED my torque Converter ...it is that powerfull !! keep it on 1 for extra kick till you can get a triple disc clutch
it is a SUPER SWEET program, only soots on spoolup then ....GOTTA GO !!
you will notice MY TRUCK IS A DUALLY....NO Problemo !!

I installed south bend OFE good for up to 500rwhp currently running beta 4.4 no slipping under wot. Love this clutch as many others do. Cost is about half of a dd clutch but if your going for more than 500 rwhp would consider a dd would be a shame to do it twice!! In my case once i had slipped it that was it, like yours after that stock was all it could handle.
Trx where did you get your clutch from and my smarty , i believe came with the 4.0 installed, should i install the 4.4 beta?? What is the difference? If you dont mind me asking, how much was the clutch assembly? Did you replace the flywheel?
#1 on Smarty is a 30 hp fuel saver program. It mainly advances the timing. It is more powerful than it seems though because Smarty adds fuel at such low rpm. I'm running the #1 aftermarket injectors, stock torque management program. The torque management is closer to stock than mild... but it is certainly not stock management! If I lug it right I can still black out the highway. Its just a little harder to do it with this program.
Mild torque management , for me, required a little too much attention to make sure I wasnt continually blacking out everyone behind me. Its not that I really mind this, I was just concerned that it would attract too much attention to the truck (cops, treehuggers..).

would not install beta 4.4 until you have a clutch and probably lift pump, cant remember exactly but think i paid around $1300 for clutch, new flywheel and upgraded hydro. I got mine from PDR here in Langley Canada but would guess price about the same anywhere. Your best bet is to speak with peter i think at south bend he can give you the best imformation that your looking for as well as a good place to purchase
Ok, i got my smarty from lary so i will call him about the clutch tomorrow. I talked to south bend today, peter said for the ofe good to 500 horse $1100 and for the dual disk BMF $1775 both prices included the upgraded hyd. Is south bend what everyone would reccomend for the $ ??? And is the upgraded hyd. system really needed??
