New Hamlton 178/208 cam..
Well,
Looks like I get to be a test mule for the new Hamilton 178/208 fuel miser cam...... Can't wait!!!! Going to be putting it in myself. Maybe I will enjoy turning a wrench again. Been out of the buisness for over 11 years but still
have all my tools, etc. Hope my crappy knees hold out...LOL Already informed the wife that she may have to get her perty self a little dirty...LOL

I did the cam about a year before the turbo, so I ran it with the stock turbo.
The change was not huge, it did make the motor smoother and a little torqueier. The turbo did spool a bit quicker and certianly moved more air! I did pick up a little mileage.
I am pretty sure I would have noticed a bigger change with doing the turbo first and the cam second.

The cam is called a fuel miser, okay, you have my attention.
What are the current numbers for the truck in re overall average mpg; long-term, and short-term; then broken out for type of driving? In other words, present baseline. In the same vein, will the truck be dyno'd before and after?
What is the projected use of the truck? Occasional RV hauler? (Sorry I can't remember; even though have often come across your other posts especially on A/C issues. Still only driving it 7500-miles/year?).
There are only a few drivetrain changes I might be willing to do on my truck, and this would be one of them. Knowing another mans percentage increase in mpg would be useful info.
Thanks for taking this on. Will be linking this thread to other truck owners I'm familiar with who've a similar interest in longest life at lowest cost.

I plan on doing a good job with the testing and trying to cover all the bases. My plan is to do the mileage testing at Interstate speeds at 75 MPH since I drive in 52 miles to work one way every day. This is where my mileage is weak. 60 mph back road driveing I get around 18-19. Interstate at that speed I am around 16-17 mpg. Not even going to get into pulling my trailer. There are too many variables to account for. I will get good numbers before I even consider doing the cam and then replicate the testing.
I haul a horse trailer with it. Truck and trailer empty are 17,500lbs. I do drive the truck on the weekends.
