Need some running boards/tube steps
Need some running boards/tube steps
Well, I traded our 04 4Runner V8 for the truck in my sig.......liking it very much. The 4Runner did OK pulling 6500 lbs., but was very much at it's limit, Duh since it's rated for 7000 towing. Looking forward to the first tow with the Dodge.
First thing on the list to throw money at are some running boards to make entry/exit easier on the wife. I'm somewhat concerned with looks, but really need them to be practical/useful as steps to get in the truck. I'm leaning toward tubes/nerf bars if someone could point me in the right direction that would be great.
Thanks!

Personally, I like these steps better than tubes........and I have had both. Pics in my gallery.

I know that you're leaning toward tubes/nerf bars but here is one more option for you.
Mopar running boards, I have them on my truck and I'm really happy with the fit, looks and functionality.

I've been really happy with the N-fab step bars. I had a set on the Power Wagon I used to own and swapped them to the CTD I am driving now. So far I have had zero issues. Some people may not like how they mount to the body instead of the frame, but they are solid on my truck.

If you like the look of polished or stainless, check out the Stull's that I have: they are 2" tube steps. I am NOT going to vouch for their mounting system (completely no drill, fronts are fine, but the rears are a PIA). But I personnally really like the style. But your are going to have to spend 1K to get a full set of these, or for ones like J&J, around 1100-1300.
Running Boards
RacerDude, I don't know if you want to spend that much but if you do, have you checked out the AMP research power running boards. Mopar also sells the same ones just under their name. I got mine for my MC at a custom truck place here installed for around 1400. (install was 125.00) They are totally strong and reliable. The step is in the perfect position for getting both in AND out of the truck. Like about half way between the rocker and the ground and 8-10" out from the truck. And after that when you close the door, they tuck up out of the way and are totally invisible.
In my experience the nerf bars are downright hazardous to use for exit. You can usually just get a heel on them and then hope you don't slip, esp if wet. I guess my preference then would be for the Mopar regular boards like The_Mexican. I just wanted to make it a little easier for my 18 mo. old daughter and Grama and Grampa.
My $.02, hope this helps. I can get you some pics of them installed if you would like.

From: Castle Rock, WA....when I'm actually there.
I've seen a few trucks running around with what is basically a nerf bar with a drop tube for a step at each door and at the bed. Does anyone know who makes them? They look REALLY sharp on our Dodges.
Found the NFAB's...they're about the same...

Thanks for all the responses guys....I went to one of our local custom truck shops today shopping and ended up buying some bars that had been sprayed with a bedliner product....really should work pretty well, won't be as slippery as regular nerf bars. Plus the price was right, sold them to me for $100. Problem is, I don't think they gave me the correct bracket kit for them, and by the time I was installing them this evening, they were closed. So I'll be going back next week to get the right parts.
The power ones do sound awesome, but I just can't justify the cost right now.
