Question Need some help on accesories please -->

Supposedly my 3500 Crew Cab Short bed 4x4 has been shipped from the factory. While I am waiting I need to find out about a few things.

What topper does everyone recommend?? I have experiance with Leer toppers and like them very much. However I do not know if a cab high topper from Leer looks good on a HD Ram. Does anyone have any pics of toppers on the new HD Ram?

Next on my accesory list is mudflaps/gaurds. I like the look of the Mopar molded mud guards. I am a little concerned that they will rub on the painted surfaces of the fenders. Also for the people that have them....do they protect the side of the vehicle well? Does any one recomend normal style mudflaps. I don't want giant naked woman emblazend mudflaps.....just some normal discreet flaps that will keep the truck clean and chip free. Does Mopar sell the traditional style flaps???

Third does anyone have the Husky floor liners in their truck? They are heavy rubber formed in a dish style design. They also have a diamond plate pattern molded into them. Do you like them and where is the best place to purchase them?

Thanks for the help! Sorry that this message is so long. But I have more questions than answers right now.

I went with the Mopar mud flaps, and like them very well. I don't see how they could damage the paint. Dodge offers two kinds, some molded ones, and the plain style (like mine) which appear to be sturdy and a bit longer. They do protect the side of the truck pretty well, though I do have a couple of rock chips after about 8k.

I went with Dodge's rubber backed carpeted floor mat in back, like the ones that come stock for the front with Laramie package. Color was WAY OFF, but otherwise they are very nice and hold up to being hosed off.

If you are getting the single rear wheel, I would recommend the inner fender liners for the rear wheels.

The dealer installed my mud flaps, but I had to pull the rears off to add the fender liners (which I didn't know the truck would be lacking), and I had to pull the front ones to pull the wheel well liners to install the Jake (which was not available when I got my truck). Obviously better planning could have saved a little time...

One other thing... I don't know if this applies to duallies or not, but many people have commented that the stock tail pipe blows soot on the end of the bumper and on the paint, which was driving me nuts! At the recommendation of people on several other threads, I just ordered this clean looking tip from Gino's...

you can check my pictures for the mudflaps and fender guards.

I have used the husky floor liners in my last truck, and was the first thing I put in this one. They are the tray type, don't have to worry about dirty boots and stuff getting the carpet all wet. Love them, just got them for the back and they form fit around everything. I don't know the best price, but Cabelas is reasonable: www.cabelas.com.

I've been looking at a Unicover topper for my rig. It's a color matched, fiberglass unit that has tinted glass, domelight inside, etc... The one I am looking at buying is the Safari I (cab-high). Local dealer quoted me $1073 installed. Their website is www.unicovercaps.com -Steve

I should have added a bit more info on mudflaps:

Install them yourself.

The dealership installed mine, and on the front they removed one of the screws that threads into a metal clip attached to the plastic inner fender, as the head would be in the way. They then installed the mud flaps with 4 sheet metal screws threaded into the body. They did grind off some of the deep dimpling on the inside edge of the mudflaps, giving the screw heads a clean countersunk appearance.

This caused two problems: First the plasic inner fender isn't secured, allowing gunk to get between the plastic inner fender and the sheet metal. Secondly, the sheet metal screws into the body work are not enough to hold the mudflap, especially on the bottom, and will pull through.

They should have lined up one of the screws to pass through the stock hole in the sheet metal and thread into the clip on the inner fender. The clip acts like a nut and washer, providing stronger place for the threads, and spreading the load on the sheet metal.

I used a dremel tool to grind off the dimpling to add another screw, lined up with the ancor for the inner fender. For added strenth, I used a couple extra clips on the bottom screws (after enlarging the hole through the sheet metal).

Bottom Line: I wouldn't trust most dealers to install mudflaps!

Thanks for all the replys!

I think I will go with the Husky Liners and the Mopar mudflaps (not mudgaurds).

Who do you think makes a better topper.....A.R.E. or Leer?
