Need help with wheel offset and backspacing...

My wife doesn't care for my H2's and really wants me to replace them. So, I'm starting to look but can't remember what offset/backspacing the H2 wheels are. The wheels I like are 17x9 with 5.71" backspacing and +18mm offset. These will work, right?

Thanks for the vote of confidence! I think I'm just having a brain fart! Too many vehicles and too much information!

I'm really just looking for verification before I order anything. I think the H2s are 8.5" wide with 5.5" backspacing. Will someone verify this for me?

As far as having my H2s, I'll gladly make you a smoking deal, if you're really interested.

I don't have the H2's but I remember reading that they are 5.5" backspacing. I remember because it was the only replacement wheel I could find that would have the same exact backspacing.

What does your wife drive? My wife drives a Jeep Liberty and can do anything she wants to it. She doesn't bug me about my truck.

The H2 wheels do have a 5 1/2" backspace so the other wheels should work. I think the factory wheels have a 4.5" backspace, so the wheels you're looking at will stick out a little farther than the H2 wheels.

My wife says I spend too much $ on my truck, I spend too much time under my truck, I spend too much time W/ my truck, I spend too much time on the computer investigating things to do to my truck, she says my truck is too loud, rides too rough, sits too high, eats up too many tires...................

I think I'm in the market for a new wife

She drives an '05 Toyota 4Runner. Were going to leave this one alone because it's just her transportation to get her through Graduate School. Once she's done with that and employed she wants a Lexus.

A 17x9 with 4.5" backspacing will stick out 1" further than a 17x9 with 5.5" backspacing. Refer to the picture below.

Finally, I'm pretty sure the stock wheels are 17x8 with 6" backspacing.

Mine doesn't badger me much about those things. And she really likes the truck as a whole, but just isn't hip on the wheels. She wants me to get a set of black wheels. I did the H2 initially because they were cheap. But if she wants me too I'd be happy to get something new!

Not to complicate things more, but depending on hte wheel manufacturer backspacing and offset are two dif things. I went through thiswhen i put wheels on my last truck. You would think that this word be standardized . nope. After talking with the gus at Centerline about it, we figured out that they used offset while the factory wheel specs called for backspacing or vice versa and to tell you the truth, now I don't remember the dif in the two. If i can find the link, i will post it.

Yeah, they are different. Take a close look at the phot I posted above. With one you can pretty much figure out the other, not precisely but close enough to get the job done.

Yeah I think the stock wheel has 6.25" backspacing, with a -40mm offset. So if you go to a 9" wide rim, backspacing would need to be 6.75", in order to keep the same off-set as the stock wheel. I'm not sure if there's any wheel with that much backspacing though...plus, it would probably cause your tire to rub a LOT.

Anyway, I'm sticking with the stock wheels for now, mainly because I feel that a wheel with a greater offset is what causes considerable extra wear to your ball joints. The bigger tires contribute too, but not as much as a wheel that's centered farther away from your ball joints. Anyone agree/disagree with that?

I agree. It definately plays a role.

It looks to me like the wheels I'm looking at will stick out past the fenders about 1", which is where my H2s are now. I'm okay with that, I like the way the H2s look.

H2 wheels are 8.5 inches wide with 5.5 inches of BS.

OEM wheels are 8 inches wide (the alloy ones) with 6.5 inches of BS

You will like a 9 inch wide wheel with 5.75 inches of BS...as long as you are not trying to stuff 37's under the truck. 35's will be fine.

no 4.5 bs is pretty much the standard for the majority of all aftermarket wheels that is why you have seen that # so much
