Need Help! blew out cp3 'freeze' plugs
Not sure what happened. I blew out both cp3 'freeze' plugs on the bootom cp3. Anyone know why this would happen? happened on second test run Juice level 4 operating temperature was 180. 4wd 30 pound boosted launch. Rail pressure 25,000. The bottom pump is a II stage 2 pump and the top pump is the original one off my truck.
What makes too high pressures. Thanks for the help.
I had one do the same thing. The pump completely exploded inside, springs were broke, plungers were gone, cam was junk. Not sure what caused it but I swapped pumps and haven't had a problem since. Amazing how much of a mess fuel spraying out of a 1" hole at 30psi can make.

How long did the pump run after the plugs blew out? Mine only ran maybe 1 minute or so.
Do you have dual pumps?

If one of the checkballs, behind the discharge passage does not reseat after the pressure cycle, high pressure can be reintroduced. The plungers will break due to the inability to pressurize the fuel to a higher level. I have seen the checkballs be left out by mistake, that can cause this. Debris or foreign material can also cause this. For whatever reason a plunger usually breaks, then the pump is done.
I smelled fuel but I had just filled up so i figured it was on my clothes. I drove about 15miles and the smell got worse so I checked. It was pouring fuel like a garden hose and EVERYTHING was covered on the right side under the hood. The drivers side rear cab door, bed side and tailgate were all covered with fuel. I didn't want to screw with it where I was at so I drove about 5 more miles to a friends diesel shop and fixed it there. I have ATS dual pumps but the pump that died was one I had already had.

same fuel line, just about 6"s down lower. As I said, it is not the return line that caused it.

Cody at II needs to know what he is talking about before he speaks. After I blew the bottom II pump, I called you for like 20 times just to see if I could get some tech support from you. After a whole 4 days of not hearing back from you I decided to call II. He told me some things to try. He said that the low pressure return could be the problem.... so i plumbed the low pressure return into the port on the front of the fuel filter housing, replaced my bottom pump - Been testing it again and no problems......but, it could have been other issues so I checked the check ball and the spring and it was in there on the junked pump. But it still could have been something else - right????.
So hear is something to consider; I will make a deal with you. I will plumb it back into the top of the rail like you say and if I blow another pump up I want you to pay for it and then pay for my stage II that I junked. Just let me know
Mine is plumbed into the rail just fine...
It can be done either way...I had too much stuff down low...so I opted for the rail.
It works...even with a plugged/capped rail.
