Today I went back to the shop to repair the rubber dust/oil boot thingy on the shift tower.
When I first removed the tower the other night,
I could see that the boot had come apart.
This was the source of an oil leak coming from the transmission.
The original boot was paper thin.
Talk about cheesing out on the rubber?
Anyways, there was no way that I was going to replace a cheesy part with another equally thin and cheesy part.

The I.D is 2.75"...
So with that I went for a walk to see what I could find to cover up the shift tower.

I ended up using part of an old shift boot that came out of my Jeep when I dropped an Atlas 2 into it.
With 4 cuts at each corner aiming towards the center and the right sized hose clamp, I was good to go.
Before I tried on my replacement boot, I added some Lucas Oil stabilizer right in through the top of the shift tower.
I put in.....I dunno....a couple of swallows I guess if you had a taste for the stuff.
I've been using Lucas products for close to 20 years in the Peterbilt and Mack trucks I've owned.
The stuff has always performed as advertised.
I've even got their synthetic ATF in the transmission and transfer case.
I run their synthetic gear lube in both diffs.
The oil stabilized that I added to the transmission made a huge difference in how the transmission sounded.
With the DD3250, you can definitely hear the trans where you couldn't before thanks to the DMF.
So yeah, the Lucas I added really helped to quiet down my transmission.
I can still hear it, its just not nearly as noticeable.

From start to finish.....maybe an hour.
For those of you who will eventually be dropping your transmission for one reason or another,
you might think about having a spare shifter boot on hand just in case the original one is bad.

i might add that removing the t-case isnt always necesssary. to each their own but on SB or long bed Club cabs all the clutches ive done recently i've left the t-case attached it isnt too had to manuver around with the t-case and it. the replacement boot is a good suggestion. its about 3-4 hours from the time you loosen the first bolt till the time you tighten the last one.

a $100 tranny jack from harbor freight sure makes life easier.

thought id add that to your thread

Nice...
I wonder why I've never seen my oils turn to foam or whatever it was that Bob tried to show?
Then again, I have never used a device that is designed to give you such B.S. results as the one Bob uses.

Hounddog....
Do you believe everything you read from people like Bob?
Have you ever had an oil product foam up on you like Bob shows?
I bet you've never used Lucas before.
Have you?

Look....I'm not saying that Lucas is better than the next brand.
I don't have any proof and besides, I dont get into clicks and I never side with the masses.
And I'm not saying that you should try Lucas.
I dont get paid by them so I wont play salesman for them.
I do know that I've had good results for quite a long time....years even.
I've run millions of miles using a Lucas product in my 86 Pete and 86 Mack.
Millions of miles....
Real world results......and I've never seen any of my oils react in the way that Bob shows.

In closing.....
Nice try...I'm not trying to convince you or anyone else in here to change their mind one way or another.
I do know that I've never seen oil foam up like that unless there was water added.

IMHO, Bob is a quack and those who follow and believe his garbage are mindless lemmings.
Remember....this is only my opinion.
I have no real proof that a mindless lemming would even buy into Bobs results.

Nice write up. I wouldn't jump on Hounddog's case, he was just trying to give you some information that he had seen... Maybe a little sleep is needed after that all nighter you just pulled...

Wonder if we could talk the mods into making a sort of section where good information like what you gave doing this clutch install could be stored. Seen a couple of good posts on other installs which could be included.

Good idea.
I didn't mean to jump Hounddog's case...
I mean, nothing personal.
It just seems that people are always so quick to bash a product around here.
Instead of all of the bashing,
why cant we see real world results both good and bad?

If one has something negative to say about brand x, then lets see why?
Pics, videos, real world results that show why a product worked or failed.
Too many of the web sites that rate or compare products against each other have bias results due to them having having their own agendas.

Again, if I came across sounding like a jerk towards Hounddog, I apologize.

The exact same thing happened to me. My heart jumped into my throat and I was trying to figure out what I messed up. Then I realized the t case wasn't' in gear.

Very nice write up! IMO, there's no better than SBC. I had the 3200 sprung hub DD in my old truck and loved it! Even before the dual disk, I had an OFE that I dynoed 566 hp 1119 tq on with no slip!

Its hard to describe the feeling I got when I let the clutch all the way out and went nowhere.
Something between soiling myself and looking up in the rear view mirror wondering why I'm being pulled over

I kinda gotta believe the report on Bobtheoilguy forum as no one has been able to prove foaming/aeration dosen't occur with Lucas lube/oil additive. Its shown pretty low buget and easyily.Do something to prove it dosen't happen.Maybe a Lexan window in the side of a tranny/differantial and a camera pointed at it or something.
