MP8 box DYNOED

4-22-06 we dynoed our trucks at Waynes Dyno in Jacksonville N.C. We had several trucks that have been running EZs and we replaced the EZs with a MP8 box and what we found was that the HP and TQ curves with the EZs were choppy and when we installed the MP8 box on each truck we got a HP and TQ curve that was smooth and we also made better #s with the MP8 box

The Dyno graphs will come when John P jr gets to his computer.

Jess what do you know about a MP8 box? You told all of us that you made 498HP on a TST box on 3/3, That must have just been a bunch of "BS"

You don't have to lie about your truck and what its got, we all know that that black 3rd gen and both of the red 2nd gens can take you out on any day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just try to be honest with all of us cause we might be able to help you one day. You have the money but we have the power

TST/EZ vs. TST/MP8 stack comparison

After lots of reading and talking to guys I finally called up Dennis Perry and talked to him about one of his MP8 boxes for my truck. I have been previously running a TST/EZ stack with my twins and DonM flux injectors, and I have been happy with the performance. However, in normal hot rodder fashion, you always want more . So after talking to Dennis one afternoon I had a box from TS at my door 2 days later. This weekend at the NC Dyno Day in Jacksonville I finally had the chance to run the comparison between the TST/EZ stack and the TST/MP8 stack. Prior to this weekend I had spent over 3 hours on the dyno tuning in my truck looking for the best combo of box settings between the TST and EZ. At this weekend's dyno event I decided to run 4 runs, so tried the MP8 first on the dyno and cranked off a fuel only run 578 hp with the first pass. The first thing I noticed was how smooth and fat the power curve was compared to the EZ runs of the past. I tried another run on a hotter TST setting and overfued it a little for a run of 568 hp. So, off came the MP8 and on went the EZ for the comparison. This run, at the setting previously found to make max power, netted only 566 hp. As advertised by Dennis the MP8 picked up peak power over the EZ. What was more amazing, however, was the off peak power that was picked up. The truck crossed the 500 hp line over 150 rpms sooner and held it over 200 rpms longer. It made 400 hp about 200 rpms sooner as well. Off peak it made up to 40 hp more than the EZ at the same RPM. The smoke produced on the dyno and on the street clearly shows the MP8 is moving more fuel, and the seat of the pants feel is easily in favor of the MP8. The EZ had slight lag between shifts, but the MP8 comes back on like the truck does when I'm running nitrous.... no lag!

Another truck, an '05 with a TST only and a HTB2 62mm turbo ran a comparison with the TST only and then a TST/MP8 stack as well. His TST only number was 441 hp / 837 tq. Adding the MP8 to his truck nettered a run of 484 hp and 881 tq! He saw similar gains as me where his truck made the same power 200-300 rpms sooner than without the stack.

I have 2 printouts I will scan and post tomorrow of the 2 dyno runs. The graphs will show both curves as well as notes on the bottom of what settings, etc were used on the runs.

Hope this helps everyone looking to stack with a TST... the TS Performance MP8 definitely works wonders!

John

Dude i didnt lie,i was ask if i was running a pressure box or programming, other than the tst and i wasnt.if you cant believe that sorry for you,i happen to have an mp-8 that is on the truck but wasnt used on the dyno.i had plans of makeing several diferent pulls with varying combos but after the near run away on the first run i opted to only try one more run.this was done with a phat shaft 66,industrial injection injects and some fuel delivery mods.as far as getting taken out by i assume Banshee ,JOHN P and i assume you meant your red 3rd gen, perhaps you all can, dont know what you mean by that perhaps it is jest i dunno.sorry to cause a hijack of your thread and when you want to take me out chris let me know il give you a chance

Jess:

I don't want to start a "war" here or anything, as I consider you to be a friend! But,.........I think the point Cris is trying to make is that it is hard to believe you made 497 HP with your 05' at our event when we have seen NOONE do that prior to you saying you did it with the TST PM 3 CR module on level 3/3! When you and I talked later, you had said "you were trying a prototype or experimental module to "stack" on the TST from a diesel performance company you said you couldn't name" because they asked you not to say anything." No problem there buddy........we understand that as we are all doing that ourselves occasionally ,....... all you had to do was tell Johnner, Cris and myself that was the case! As you and I further discussed, the "secret squirrel" stuff at our events is really unneccessary IMO. I would hope that we are all trying to help each other in our N.C./VA group and that we are past these kind of things. It is not like we are in the DHRA Pro Street Class competing or anything! Hope you can understand what I am trying to say Jess!

John perhaps you misunderstood me yesterday,i did tell you that i had something extra an my truck ,that was being tested but i never made mention of it being a box or programmer or any injectable power adder of any kind.the only module or box that was used to make the hp number was a tst twins on 3x3.Johnner asked point blank about a pressure box or programmer and i saw the looks i got when i said no,that is why i pulled you aside later and talked with you so you could hopefully understand and explain it to others.i had several people ask me what i had and i explained it was all very trila and testing but didnt mean to lead anyone to believe it was a module or programmer of any kind.

All of you who have read this and if your thinking about getting a MP8 box, give Dennis Perry a call at TS Performance 1-270-746-9999 monday to get a box.

You also might want to get your EZ up for sale before everyone else starts selling theirs and the prices start falling

Tell him Cris Sonnichsen and John Porterfield told you to call and tell him if you are going to stack it with something, He will custom tune it for you.

borrowed MP-8

John and Chris,
Thanks again for allowing me to use your MP-8. Seeing how I didn't have my pressure box with me (broken) it was good to be able to test with something. Thanks again.
I am really thinking about calling Dennis and getting one.

graphs?

Where's the dyno graphs? Anxiously waiting! One thing I don't like about the TST is the peaky type of graphs. It seems like all the pressure box only graphs I've seen really follow the factory HP/TQ curve profiles.

So a TST and an MP8 would be a good stack? I'll be ordering an MP8 tomorrow and would like to have it tuned for the TST.

Geez, I hate I missed it this weekend. This is the kinda stuff I was gonna talk to everyone about!!

UnrulyNFS,

Yes, they make an excellent stack together. Very smooth power on the street, but it pulls way harder SOTP than the TST/EZ stack. For the first time ever I had my truck break the tires loose in 4th gear at about 40 mph You definitely missed a good event... way more diesel talk there than at MATR.

bama,

The versions of the MP8 that both Masonic Dodge and I used were set up to be stacked with the TST by Dennis at TS. The programming is a little different than the regular non-stack MP8. I can't say that a regular version that wasn't programmed by Dennis would react the same way.

So, did you all plug it in this way:

MAP sensor to MP-8 to TST to ECM

Or

MAP sensor to TST to MP-8 to ECM ?

The reason I ask is that the MP-8 boost fools agressively (showing the ECM more boost than actual) at low boost/high throttle settings, causing the TST to fuel a lot sooner (assuming you have the MP-8 plugged in first). It makes for quite a smoke show on higher settings, especially if you're running a TST with the early twins flash. I think that combo is a bit too much. I think the regular TST twins or even the standard TST program would be the best stack if you're plugging in the pressure box first.

I wish I had two TST boxes and two MP-8's so I could find the magic combo on my truck.
