Mods + milage...how far can it really go?
Mods + milage...how far can it really go?
Well, theres a ton of mods that are supposed to give a mpg increase...
programmer/downloader/chip/whatever (edge says 10%)
muffler (some claim 1mpg)
air filter (some claiming 1mpg)
intake tube (another mpg?)
tonneau cover (retrax claims 10%)
Man...with all this combined, we should all be getting something like 30mpg..

Im sure someone very technical could go into a full discourse here about mileage. The bottom line is that power/efficiency additions are not additive; although they are related to an extent.
The same basic efficiency principles apply here that have always applied. There is no free lunch. You could go into the quality and btu of the fuel, trans. efficiency, power adders, air induction, tires (rolling resistance), and much, much more.
That said, I believe there are many good products out there thiat can increase mileage -and- power. I can say that I am very pleased with my 3rd. gen. truck. My overhead now shows 19.7. My hand calcs. are only slightly behind. This is mostly city type driving. Pretty good as I can make a little more power than stock.
On the other hand, my father has a 1991 smoker that will net 23+ mpg. The difference is mine will suck the headlights out of that truck.
