If you're just replacing the stock muffler with the MBRP, it will only fit in one way, which will flow the exhaust over the louvers (at least, mine only went in one way. In answer to your second question, it's quite a bit quieter than straight pipe, at least with the cat still in place. At idle and WOT, it's a little louder than stock, inside the cab. Mostly, it gives a deeper, healthier tone than the stock muffler.

With the MBRP installed, the tip of my stock tailpipes has moved back under the truck body just a bit which some people say is the main cause of drone, but I have not experienced it.

My wife ordered the muffler for me from DPP. Mark Craig is the DPP guy on here. Can't say enough about their customer service from my dealings with them. I told my wife what I wanted for Christmas via email since I was underway at the time. Not being into trucks, even with my thorough description, she still wasn't sure she would order the right thing. After we opened gifts on Christmas morning, she kept talking about how helpful they were. If this is the vendor you sent the email to, try giving them a call.

Pep Boys has a cheap tip for $42 which will get it out past the bed & make it bearable inside the truck.
