Manifold Bolts

Well in the process of putting on my turbo and exhaust manifold I had 2 bolts break off. I had the torque wrench set at 70 and it didnt even reach that before they snapped. In the process of removing the two bolts I broke an easy out in the one. and the other didnt come. What would you recomend to try and also where is the best place to buy new bolts. Im not having anymore snap on me.
Thanks
Wayne

I think you put a little too much elbow into it. Those bolts are only torqued to (32 ft. lbs.)

ARP sells manifold bolts or you could go to your local hardware and fine some Grade 8 bolts

you might want to check with BD just to be sure. The spec I gave you is for a stock manifold.

Ok now comes the fun part of trying to get the two out. Im going to pull the manifold and see if I can get on them. I dont know what else to do. Especially since i already broke an easy out in it.

Do You have welder or access to one? Living in Canada where in winter apparently salt is abundant, have broken many bolts on my jeep. Jeep+Rust=broken bolts and bloody knuckles. I've always had good luck welding a nut or bolt to the remainder of said broken bolt. The heat shock from the weld also will help free up the threads.

The best thing I have found for broken bolts is left handed bits, especially in your case. Your bolts broke off from too much tension, not corrosion. A LH bit would zip those things right out.

Throwing some heat on the bolts may help but do so with caution. A heated bolt becomes harder and then you need cobalt bits to drill them out. Just hope there is enough bolt protruding through once you get the manifold off to get some vicegrips on them if you do not have any LH bits.

They should come pretty easy after i break the load off I hope. I have moly lube anti seize on them right now. I am going to try the vice grips first. The left handed bits is a great idea I might try that but if not my next choice is to weld the nut on. Do you think the stock bolts bottemed out? That is one of the thoughts that just crossed my mind.

Just take a small screwdriver and stick it in an empty hole. Mark it and compare how long the bolts are minus the thickness of the manifold flange. I doubt they bottomed out, there is usually a decent amount of added depth added to bolt holes but it is a possibility.
