I ran my truck straight piped for a while with cat in place and recently added a magnaflow 14" muffler 20" overall in the stock location. I really like the sound a lot better than straight piped it seems deeper but a little quieter than before. I am going to kick my cat over the hill this weekend I hope it's not much louder, I like it pretty well right now.

David, I have a 30'' magnaflow on my truck with no cat. Sounds a lot deeper than the stock muff and quite a bit louder when you accelerate aggressively. At idle it is not loud, but deeper. I also have an AFE Stage 2 air intake too that is pretty loud. You can hear mine at WOT on the dyno in this link. http://www.riegerweb.com/Nortex_DTR/Videos/TexasCTD.WMV

That combo netted 40hp gain over stock air/exhaust with no other power adders.

Yes that is audio from my truck but it is also kinda muffled by the tube to keep the smoke out of the dyno bay. Hopefully it still gives you an idea of what they sound like. Quite a bit deeper. IMO it still doesn't sounds as good as a 2nd gen truck........but for a 3rd gen..I love the sound.

I am also looking at the 36 inch Magnaflow. I am currently getting a drone sound at 85 mph. On the other hand, I have also heard that some people also get a drone with a Magnaflow installed. Would it be safe to assume that the drone of a straight pipe is louder then the drone from a Magnaflow?
