Mag-Hytec Front diff cover question

I remember reading something about them hitting the steering stabilizer. Is that still happening?

I know they changed the machining to avoid it, but was it resolved?

If not, I will go with the PML in the front.

Thanks in advance.

I never could get a definate straight answer to that either. If you look at my sig, you will see a MH rear Diff cover and a PML front. I like them both.

I never got a good answer either, so I chose the plain PML and painted it red to match my truck. Saved a bit of money by going with the plain PML cover too.

Be sure to use use some Teflon tape on drain bolt or you may have some capillary fluid seepage around threads. Just enough to collect dust around the drain bolt, not a leak.

I am installing Mag-Hytec front and rear covers tomorrow, and will let you all know about the clearance. I researched this a while back, and the answers I got indicated the older versions had issues, and the newer ones addressed it.

More info tomorrow.

I have both on my '04.5 and the only issues I had on the front were trying to get the allen socket on 2 of the bolts with my torque wrench. I had to cut a plain old allen wrech just to get to them. No issues other than that and they look killer. I notice people trying to look under the truck to stare at them all the time.

I have installed them before with no problems...... Now if you have an aftermarket trackbar that is larger than OEM I have had clearance issues.

Have both on my truck and they went on without any problem. However after driving it for a while and getting under to service it I noticed that it had rubbed enough on the top center of the front one to take the paint off in an area about 3/8 inch wide and about 2 inches long along the top curving edge.

Same experience as FarmerJim had with his... I thought it was due to the 4.5 inch lift, but maybe not... Seems to make contact on extreme turning angles when I hit a bump...

I have both on my 3500. The first front cover did hit (early model, one of the first) and rub, I called Jerry at Mag and he machined me a cover with clearance where I needed it, no more problems after that. A little helpful hint with install, I supported my truck by the frame and let the axle hang and the bolts were easy to work with, plenty of room.

Other than the dealer giving me a hard time when my pinion seal went in the rear- they blamed it on the covers.

Installed the covers today. No issues in the front. Stock suspension all the way around FWIW.

I have them both on my truck, fit fine, no problems. My dealer had no problems with me installing them. HOT desert roads, additional fluid made sense to them. They also recommended I use 75w140 syn fluid when I changed out the fluids, again HOT desert roads. I'm running Amsoil Sever Gear, great stuff.
