Lucas Additives
Lucas Additives
I finally decided to try using Lucas Oil Stabilizer when I changed my oil the other day. I was curious if anyone out there had an opinion on that particular product.?? I thought it would be worth a try to see if their product in fact does what it promises...less engine knock, better starting, less engine wear (cant check that promise), and most importantly....twice your oil life. I have no problem spending twice as much on an oil change if i have get twice the life out of the oil.
Let me know.........

www.bobistheoilguy.com Do some searching and reading here. Not much if anything GOOD is said about the Lucas products you add to oil and lubes.Changes the formula of good oil and in a nut shell ruins it.Foaming issues and the such.Have heard big rig owners swear by it but the testing thats been done with it was very negitive in what it did to good stock lubes.

Ruins good oil? Says who? And negative testing?
I don't suppose the the sponsors of that test would have been in the oil business?
People are always quick to jump on the band wagon because the read it in The Grit, or saw it on the Jerry Springer Show. Seldom do they have pure facts.
Now I don't get any kick-back from Lucas, or any free products from them. I have always paid full price. I've had good results since 1986 using Lucas products in my Petes, Mack Trucks and personal vehicles. I've never seen anything foaming out of any of my trucks.
Who knows, maybe my Cat diesel engines, Mack diesel engines, wheel hubs, power steering pumps, pto's, gear boxes and rear ends like ruined oils?
The testing that was done was entirley by independent labs etc.No one involved in any other products. One test was a clear face covered gear set spun to speed with a decent brand oil and no additives.Nothing unusal happened when spun to what would be cruising rpms. Then Lucas was added.BIG differance in the charactor of the oil and lots of air with lots of foam.Lots of discussions about Lucas on Bobtheoilguy site in the past.It was tested with oils, gear oils etc.Other testing done by others back when.I did a lot of reading about Lucas a few years ago.Found lots of BEWARES about the product. As well as truckers swearing by it so do a lot of circle track racers. But the testing and what I read about it was shocking. The point being made by the testing is that quality motor oils and gear oil fromulas can be degraded by additives instead of improved.Stick with quality lube products and don't add anything as it changes the chemical makeup/formula of them and very seldom for the good.

As I said use the fuel condintioner also but (just me)would NOT use any additives in other fliuds much less Lucas additives. On their fuel additives I do have a intersting story. Friends 03 2500 auto,3.73 Dodge started stalling on start up,bad idle surge and puffs of white smoke at about 140k.Nothing ever used in the fuel, stock truck and he towed about 6k maybe 90% of the time.Any how I suspected a bad FCA? He could use a healthy dose of any number of fuel additives(Howes,Power Service eaither white or gray etc)and it would clear up and run correctly as long as the additive was in that tank of fuel.By a 1/2 tank of non treated fuel it would start the same issues. The ONLY additive that it would NOT clear up and run ok was Lucas! Even just plain MMO in the fuel it would run correctly. But not with Lucas fuel treatment.I have since seen a test for a bad FCA is to add two stroke oil or a fuel treatment/lube and if it clears up and runs ok replace the FCA.Lucas did not clear it up even with a full bottle to a tank of fuel.Made me wonder even about their fuel treatment. This test/finding was not done on purpose. He would grab what ever he could get and pour it in.At first thinking he had water in fuel, carboned injectors etc.He just happened to notice the only thing he poured in the fuel that did NOT help was the Lucas stuff.Gotta wonder! He drove that truck like 5k with additives and no additives.Always in a half tank or less it would do the same stall/stumble,idle surge and if treated would clear up in a few miles.Lucas was the only product that had no effect on it.As I stated I use it some but it does not give me a warm fuzzy feeling when I do.I look at the bottle with a touch of doudt.
I saw the Lucas ads and little gear demo at the auto parts store years ago and was like WOW.Looks like good stuff. Was told truckers swear by it and other good things. Then later did some reading and looking into their products and was shocked at what I found.Wouldn't put it in my lawn mower after reading and seeing tests using it.Then my friend whom has/had NO clue about fuel additives with his poor running Cummins and his comment about it was the ONLY fuel additive that did nothing for it when poured into the fuel.He even made the same comment.BUT the TRUCKERS swear by it.Yet even a dose of MMO or Power Service lubed what I think was a bad FCA valve. I heard and have heard great things about DURALUBE and a few others. Some real bad write ups on it also as well as class action law suites. The REAL moral of the story is use good quality lubes and don't ruin the formula by adding or mixing to it.
I found that test on "Bob is the oil guy" very interesting. Not really a high tech test, but the results to me were clear.
I have never been big on engine oil supplements. I think with the quality of lubricants these days, why would you want to add anything. Seems to me if the supplements were that much better, the big oil companies would be using the same stuff in their oils. Whether anyone would like to admit it, the oil companies spend lots of time on R&D developing these new formulations to make them compatible with things like particulate filters and EGRs in modern engines. If all they had to do was add Lucas, that would be the easy way.
These supplements may have had their place 20-30 years ago, but lets face it, they are old technology.

I saw those tests a few years ago also. They seemed legit. The tests were enough to steer me away from Lucas products. I'm not gonna tell anyone what to run or what not to run in their equipment, but I will say that I saw some test results, and they were'nt good.
