Loudest, best sounding LEGAL Exhaust????

Im getting ready to mod my 07 Ram 3500 5.9 HO CTD and one of the first couple things I want to do is exhaust...

I have been thinking about doing a muffler delete on the stock system... its awesome that they are now using a 4" exhaust stock!!

But I am wondering if a cat back system might sound better or louder? I wish I could do a turbo back straight pipe, but I need to keep it legal... for now atleast!!

Any suggestions? Sound clips / videos and pics would be helpful

Thanks

Sam

Stacks would be the loudest. An "offroad" exhaust would be the loudest for rear-side exit exhausts, mainly because of the cat delete, but overall stacks will be louder.

I would just run the muffler delete pipe. The cat keeps the raspy tone mellowed out and it has a nice sound to it. Once you remove the cat it starts to get pretty loud, and illegal.

Give it a shot, you wont be out of a lot of money with the muffler delete pipe if you dont like it.

I can tell you that 5" into dual 7" stacks is crazy loud (Mexico legal only)
I am crazy so they are just loud to me

check your state and local laws first. in the commonwealth of Virginia any exhaust modification done that is louder than oem equipment is illegal. I still have my tickett at my house, and I was running an exhaust with a muffler at the time and thought I was legal, turns out not so much.

I did a muffler delete and put on a 6"tip and I love the way it sounds. It is only loud when I want it to be.

Any of you guys have any warranty issue with the delete pipe? I have an exhaust guy here that will do it for $45, but he wants to weld it. If I might run into problems with the delete pipe, I might as well pay the extra $40 to get the one that will clamp on...

Thanks

Why weld it??? Get some 4" band clamps and a pretty cheap straight through muffler, have a piece of 4" pipe cut to the exact length of the muffler and you can switch back and forth at your discretion. Or as stated just get the muffler delete pipe AND band clamps, once you wrestle the stock muffler off throw the crush clamps in the deepest landfill you can find and going back and forth between muff and straight will be a 10-15min project with no torches needed. I for one hate the sound of the 3rd gens with single turbos and a straight pipe. Now 5" straight back with twins is another story.

Read up on your local laws first....then move from there. Up here in Alberta (Oil capital of the world), we basically mirror texas laws for exhaust. The turbo is considered a muffling device so therefore you can run straight. Some states and provinces "require" an actual muffler.

Yep Virginia doesnt care if you have 5 turbos, and 2 mufflers if its louder than OEM you are in the wrong. And you cant plead ignorence I tried, and play the part very well , but still had to pay.
