Loss of power after having Smarty Touch for a month
Loss of power after having Smarty Touch for a month
I've been running Smarty Touch on level 5 for about a month and have gradually lost power to the point it just feels like stock. I then put it on level 9 and it felt like it was back to level 5 power for about 2 days now it's losing power again.
Rail pressure is about 5000-6000 at idle. Spikes at 24000 wot. When I stab it it drops to about 13000 and takes about 3 seconds to start rising. It wasn't doing this before. It was usually pretty instant.
Egt's are normal and only spike to about 1200 on hard pulls. Boost spikes at about 37 psi.
I was told there was no way my stock clutch would hold level 9 but it's doing it no problem so something's not right. It's not making the power it should.
This truck is a 2005 2500 with nv5600 stock LUK clutch, stock injectors and turbo 300,000 miles.
Any help is appreciated.

This place has definitely changed over the last few years ...... and the changes are not good.
Can't think of any reason why your truck could change the way you describe, except am wondering if you are absolutely positive that the changes that you programed into the Smarty actually took hold. Did the Smarty accept the changes?
I have the Smarty jnr on my truck.

I guess it did. I didn't get any errors or anything. I'm to the point now where I have to put the truck back to stock, then reload a tune just about every three days. It runs great after the tune is loaded and gradually loses power until it just feels like stick again.

It sounds like your truck is losing power even with the Smarty Touch on higher settings. Here are some things to check:
Check the Smarty Touch Settings – Make sure the tune is properly loaded and no settings have changed.
Fuel Rail Pressure – Your rail pressure seems low at idle and drops too much under heavy load. This might indicate a fuel delivery issue.
Clutch and Transmission – Even though the clutch is handling the power, there could be other issues in the drivetrain affecting performance.
Inspect for Leaks – Check for any leaks in the fuel system or boost pipes that could cause power loss.
Diagnostics – Use a diagnostic tool to check for any stored codes or issues not immediately obvious.
Maintenance – With 300,000 miles, parts like injectors and turbo could be wearing out. Consider having them checked or replaced if needed.
If you can’t find the problem, it might be best to consult a diesel performance specialist for a thorough inspection.

Your rail pressure drop points to a fuel supply problem. The pump may not keep up when you hit the throttle. A weak lift pump can cause this. When the rail drops and comes back slow, the high-pressure pump works harder and the tune cannot add power.
Check the lift pump pressure at the filter housing. Make sure the filter is not plugged. A weak lift pump will show low pressure under load.
Also check for air in the fuel. Loose fittings or cracked lines can pull in air and cause slow rail rise.
The stock clutch holding level 9 is a sign that the truck is not making full power. Fixing the fuel supply should bring the power back.
If the lift pump is old, replace it first. It is the most common cause in this setup.
