Hey...that is pretty slick. I have experienced.....the shudder

I've hit the switch in Park (accidentally), nothing happens. I actually thought something was wrong with it until I realize it shouldn't work in Park

I will try to make up another set and take a picture of the wiring and draw a picture with the diagram for everyone in the near future.

The ATS Controllers automatically unlock the converter at 20 MPH even if you forget and for an old guy like me, that helps alot.

Well that is why mine is a dead mans button, because I have short term memory loss all the time, I think . Thumb on button, locked TC, let go button and TC not locked. Done this way for me so I don't have to remember .

Unlocks the tranny when you hit the brakes....that sort of defeats the purpose of having the tranny locked for the deceleration advantage. Yep and an abaccas is cheaper than a laptop but I can't diss you guys with an abaccas. It's only money and you can't take it with you and if you die with it the government takes it all anyway.....spend it and the government only gets the sales tax and you get the tax write off. ks

I am still going to configure a rpm activated "window" switch like drag racers use to turn on and off nitrous systems. It can be set at any rpm ( I am thinking around 1600 rpm's would be good in first gear, just so the converter is very close to being "locked up" due to fluid coupling at that rpm anyway, less strain on the tripple disc as it engages) and be set at a different rpm, even lower than the original "on" setting to disengage it.( I was thinking around 900 rpm's that way you can let off gas pedal and slow down in traffic if need be without unlocking till your almost stopped anyway) MSD ignitions makes a tach adapter for diesel trucks with electronic injectors that will supply the signal to the digital window switch. It will all cost a little over $200 bucks or so. I just don't want to have to worry about forgetting to shut off and truck die. That can easily happen on a long haul and you're tired. I had an ATS co-pilot on my 98 and it worked fine, just didn't like the mile-per-hour adjustment as you can be at different rpm's and different gears under hard or soft accel and there was quite an rpm drop when it locked just as it goes into second. This can't be good on the tripple disc clutch lining - even though its a tripple disc. I am going to do this so I'll let you all know how it works.

How many different kinds of lock up controllers are out on the market? I want one for mostly towing purposes, but for the drag strip will be an added bonus.

To my knowledge, ATS, DTT and Suncoast all have controllers available to the consumer.

I use the Torq-Lok controller from BD Power. It will lock your converter at a pre-set speed, which is set by you via dip-switches on the board, regardless of what gear you're in. It also automatically unlocks the converter at that same pre-set speed. You have a toggle switch in the cab that when "off", normal trans operation. When "on", locks at the speed you set, and unlocks on decel automatically when you hit that same speed. Mine is set to lock and unlock at 25mph.....perfect. Best part, it is half the price of the other controllers.

The ATS Comander or Co Piliot with a overide lockup switch is the ticket!

Maybe I'm just not understanding..... If you use a controller to lock the converter, how is that used for racing? Your at the line, light turns you stomp it.... converter is locked say in second..... since you do not want to have your converter locked as the gears are changed, you have to hit the switch at the right time before you auto switches into 3rd, then as soon as it shifts, hit the switch again, then turn it off again as it goes into OD???

I guess I'm not getting it? I was told by Goerend that you can do some serios damage (even to billet internals) if you allow the tranny to shift while locked???
Someone please explain...

With my Trans Commander the tranny can stay locked from 1st to OD shift. If the tranny is built for it....not a problem. With the stand alone controller you can unlock the TC for a fraction of a second and I mean in 1/100 of a second variations to get a balance of keeping boost and keeping the power flowing. The ATS stand alone controller and electronic valve body is able to control all aspects of shifting and torque converter lock-up via a laptop. It also has data logging capability for about 24 digital inputs and 6 analog inputs...it is a serious tool just like Live EFI for your tranny plus a data logger. ks

Since this thread was started I bought the co-pilot. Very neat, especially the pull in 2nd gear when locked. But I have been having some weird problems with mine in where it dosent seem to shift sometimes. Just will keep reving, with no pull, kinda like in never never land. Got a new box, same thing, going to pull it into the shop next wednesday and see if we can figure something out
