Just got back-2500 mi trip w/ JR and 10K

Just got back from a 2500 mile round trip towing 10K with JR on the 70hp setting and I am very impressed. Left MN and headed for Idaho through North Dakota and Montana. Left Idaho and headed south through Idaho Falls and into Jackson Wy where we left there and headed back to MN.

Last year with the stock engine program I could hit 1300-1350 deg and would not hold overdrive on some of the real long pulls. This year I never saw over 1200 except once when I put it to the floor up a steep hill when running a new d-max but that was for a very short time and it peaked at 1214 deg. Last year with the stock engine programming I averaged 8mpg and this year with more wind to deal with and JR on board I averaged 10 MPG. Never shifted out of overdrive once and could accelerate nicely while pulling overdrive, converter held up nicely and never saw trans temp over 145 degrees. There were times when I had to turn the OD off on some of the twisty climbs becasue it would shift into OD at 45 mph in 4WD and really lug the engine hard, engine pulled it fine but it seemed like the converter was not enjoying it though, never slipped but seemed to push it hard.

When accelerating in either 3rd or 4th with the converter locked up it would smoke quite a bit, but not excessive in my eyes. Truck ran very smooth and at times you could not even tell it was a diesel it was so quiet.

The other truck in our group was a F-350 with the V-10 and he was pulling about 3K less weight and he averaged 6 MPG. I would fill up every other stop becasue it was cold and I was getting tired of getting out of the truck every 135 miles.

Very impressed and after I get the trans done I will try it on the 100HP setting and see what the difference is.
