Question Isolator Needed?

I'm not clear if an isolator is required or desired with a mechanical fuel pressure guage in an '05 application. Does having the the pump in the tank make any difference. Anyone care to comment?

I'm also curious as to what the pressure medium is between the isolator and the guage. Air?

Thanks.

Yes, it is a fire issue. I, for one do not want fuel oil in my cab. You should charge the guage side of the line with antifreeze. i used a hyperdermic for glue and separately filled the isolator and the line first before tightening the fittings.

I had an isolator for a while, but it would cause the guage to be inaccurate, so I took it out and have had no problems since. I am using stainless braided teflon hose which is overkill, but it should insure no leaks

They make FP gauges that don't use an isolator - ATM-4361, www.summitracing.com is one example. I'd go with one of these or run a pure mechanical gauge without an isolator. The risk from leaking diesel in the cab isn't fire, it's an oily mess.

Would you run a mechanical oil pressure gauge in the cab?
