Intercoolers, Whats your experence?

I have a 05 with the plactic ends and was thinking a intercooler would be a good first investment. The BD cooler looks good and claim up to 200 degrees reduction. That would be way cheaper then a torbo that would deduct 200 degrees. I know their are a few others, Cool twist, Banks. For less then a grand seems like a good investment for the 05 guys with plactic ends.

What do you guys think? any experence with after market coolers and what is your real world experence with lower egt's?

thanks for your thoughts

I installed the Banks intercooler. Noticed about 50 to 100 degree drop average. Less smoke when I put the hammer down and temps don,t seem to spike as long. ( although my chip cuts out @ 1300 deg )
A friend and my self installed it in about 7 hours & 18 beer.
Truthfully I think I would go with the turbo first. Next time.

Fossy 777, You would go with the intercooler first... But me remember I have the crummy 05 with the plactic ends. A new turbo would only compound the problem

The 2006's are all-metal intercoolers, right?

I read about the 05's and checked my 06. It seems to be metal everywhere. Am I missing something? Did they "hide" the plastic somewhere?

I think only the early 05's had the plastic end coolers. 05 1/2 they went back to metal. you should be good.

Unless I missed something I beat on the ends of my intercooler with a wrench and it sure sounds like metal to me.

You didn't miss anything, you must have a latter 05. Like I said only the early 05 had the plastic ends.

You can tell if you have the plastic one, looking at it from the front, the ends will have a waffle appearance.

intercooler

This is next on my list also. I do have the plastic stocker and am sure it is a matter of time before it goes. I am not sure which to go with, but am leaning toward the banks system. If anyone has any information on this system or any others, please let me know.

thanks

sure I have the banks setup after popping 2 stocker plastic ones. It cost me $1500 overnighted to wisc. but well worth it since the truck makes me about $500. a day and the replacement welded solid alum one didn't show up for about 2 weeks.. Personally I would go to the mopar dealer and get a "new solid alum one" I think my cost at the dealer was around $500. Alot cheaper than what I paid and it is mopar, so absolutely no warranty problems.

I saw 45 out of my stocker for a while before it ever popped. When it did it was because of the wastegate sticking. It would stick open and then slam shut. When the last cooler popped. I heard the gate slamming shut so I let off and looked at the gauge to see it PEG OUT a 60 psi autometer. All in a split second then boom like I blew a tire. Then no power.

I had been running my xzt for a few months and never had a problem untill my wastegate started acting up. When the second cooler was taken out the dealership "adjusted" my wastegate linkage. Since then it isn't as bad but still leaks alot. I can hear a really high pitched squeel like air rushing out of the flap that is almost shut but not completely. Eventually I will get under it and check it out but I just don't have the time. so It will have to wait..

I inquired with my dealer and they told me that when It pops they will replace it for free under warranty with a new aluminum one.
