Keep your stocker, I saw no difference. Buy a bigger turbo and a tranny instead.

A thin coat of black actually helps cool better.

Think about it, if black absorbs heat better, shouldn't it also radiate heat better?

In fact in the world of heat sinks a black anodized aluminum heat sink will dissipate heat better than an unplated aluminum heat sink!

I'm not very well versed on this topic, more of an ME or Physicists area, but I do know black will cool better than bare or white.

if that was the case then why do u see so many aftermarket intercooler companys and drag racers using bare aluminum intercoolers and radiators. and if something absorbs heat, why would u want it on something that is trying to dissapate heat. that defeats the purpose of an intercooler.

Like I said in my previous post, I'm not very well versed in this topic. But it is true, black does absorb heat better and it does dissipate heat better. Its just physics.

I used to be a big fan of intercoolers with turbo swaps, but I have never had anyone prove to me they actually provide cooler denser air. Someone needs to run intake temps on a stock intercooler and an aftermarket to see if their is really a difference. I have a very expensive BD unit under the hood, and I cant tell a difference. I would hold off on intercoolers untill concrete evidence is out, or you have built your truck to a point where you are seeing very high boost #'s.

A turbo upgrade is going to be something you are going to get more bang for the buck out of for sure. But there comes a point once you have the turbo upgrade that the stock intercooler simply cant flow any more. We have done testing and any of the other makers of intercoolers can back this up that do show significant drops in charge air temps over stock. Our 05 Dodge at 510rwhp picked up 45hp from the stock intercooler to ours. There was also a significant drop in charge air temps at 70psi.

With our intercooler you just have to touch it to feel the difference. Take a truck that has it on a hard run. Stop, pop the hood and feel the two tanks. The inlet one will be hot and the outlet should be cool like a cold beer. We do that demo here all the time.

If you have an aftermarket turbo that flows a fair amount of air the intercoolers are definitely worth doing.

A quick test you can do yourself without probes to test the temps is to take your truck for a short hard blast. Stop pop the hood and feel the difference in the temperature of the intake tank to the outlet tank. One will be hot and one will be waaaay cooler.

An air-to-air CAC's primary mode of thermal energy transfer is conduction (I don't think convection is significant even when dynoing or hooking), but radiant heat transfer is also effective.

"Blackbody radiation" implies just that - black is the best emitter, while silver, white, shiny/mirror are better reflectors. In this particular case, the CAC is hotter than outside air, so it will reject heat from the charge air to ambient more efficiently if it's a dark color such as black.

Only early-build '05s had the plastic-tanked CAC... before switching to all aluminum.

The crimped plastic tanks don't take 60psi very well, IIRC.

They make a neat sound when they "POP" though.
