does this increase the turbo whistle?

I had a AFE stage 2 air intake and had to get rid of it because the whistle was so bad.

Kerry, good point on the "Horn" vs. "Manifold" I agree, but was using the manufacturer's terms for clarity's sake. Also, FWIW, my boost readings with the horn were pretty much the same as normal (31-33 psi on the BD-X) so there was no loss of boost with the larger horns.

Great post and review, nice to see I actually bought a mod that I won't have to switch out later to something better

Nope, not that I can tell. I still have my silencer ring in because of how loud the aFe and Torque tube are! This is on the quiet side of the intercooler.

Was boost measured on the horn or in the intake....IF on the horn itself there should be no difference... on the intake there might be a slight drop...as in more power per unit of boost. The only thing that makes more hp is more air or more fuel per injection event. Something has to give. Kerry

NICE job erik.......Im sorry I couldnt make it to be the test truck but a 2day old baby makes your time very valuable. All though I'm sure you were happy to do it on your truck.

I wonder how much of a gain would be had on a stock truck. Also what would be the difference without the WINspeed heater grid delete?

I know Adam has made a ton of airflow improvments which is why his truck puts up such big numbers. Every little bit of restriction you can get rid of helps.

GOOD JOB

Totally understand, Jason. And, yes, I was quite happy to have it done on my rig. Now I have to write Adam a check for the intake..hehe...
I didn't think to do them with/without the grid. I didnt want to have too many variables. When I get the FASS installed, I will try with and without the grid..for grins.

Wow, I would have never expected to see those numbers. 4wheelparts just had one of those 24 hour sales where the bladerunner was $240. Wish I read this first.

Thanx for doing such a cool test and sharing it with others.

Premier Performance asked Adam Winslett from WINspeed to test out the ATS, aFe and CFM+ manifolds on a 5.9 Common Rail truck. Adam turned to the crew at Tri-Valley Performance in Dublin, CA for the testing on their DynoJet Load Dyno. When Adam’s test truck couldn’t make it, Erik Lind (one of TVP’s owners) volunteered his 2004 Ram for the tests.

is this a dyno that loads the rolls or is it a centrifugal dyno if it loads the rolls and keeps constsant hp that could be the reson for the low end #s since most centrifugal dynos are really spiking the engines hp capabilitys

I built my own elbow and I certainly believe those dyno numbers. Now I understand why the low end feels so much more improved than the top end. I think it will just take more top end fueling to see a similar improvement there and get the top end egt back up where it was. Craig
