installing fass 150 gph

hey, im about to buy the fass 150 gph for my 05 and i would rather install it my self instead of taking it to someone and haveing them do it for me, i kinda take pride in doing things my self, but before i get to big headed i want to know how hard is it to install... can an amature like me do it myself??? i dont think it can be that hard.?.?. how do i remove my old lift pump because im not quit sure where it is even located, i know where the cp3 and the fuel filter pump is loacted but not to sure where the lift pump is... thats why im on here is to learn maybe someone can chime in or maybe post some pictures on how to install one. im also going to install a fuel pressure guage and would like to know where to tap it in at... any help would be appreciated. thanks alot!!!

p.s. should i go with the one with the air seperator filters or just go with the lift pump??? thanks!!!

You mentioned the "fuel filter pump". That's the lift pump, the one mounted to the rear of the fuel filter. But your sig says you have an '05. I thought all '05s had the in-tank pumps. Hmmm. If you do have the lift pump at the fuel filter it's not as hard to get at as it looks at first. Lay over the fender and reach down with an allen wrench (I don't remember what size, 5 mm I think) and take out the 4 screws. You'll need the piece that replaces it and has a pipe thread to accept a barb. Hopefully any kit you get will have everything. You might check the Glacier Diesel Walbro kit before you get too carried away.

The FASS and HPFP are both easy installs. But on your truck it will require you to drop the tank to install a suction tube kit, since your LP is in the tank. Everything is included in the kit to install the FASS but the zip ties. We have a port on the side of the FASS to plumb in a gauge if you want. BUT i made a "T" of sorts for my gauge tap. Closer to the Injection/pressure pump. I just got a 1/2 Pipe "T" at a plumbing store, found some 3/8" to 1/2" Parker push lock fittings (Like included in the kit...there are some auto stores that carry them...if not....you dealer can request 2 extra when ordering). And got reducers to reduce the 1/2" pipe to whatever you are using for your gauge.....(all i have done were 1/8" Pipe). You can put that anywhere on the 3/8" line.

Check out the install instructions here.....

If you need a FASS or HPFP.....that is up to you. You get more with the FASS: 60,000 mile filter, and reusable water separator; (Can go down to a 3 micron filter if ya want to) Air filtration, by-pass the stock Filter housing.

The HPFP kits come with a billet adapter that will allow the 3/8's line to attach to the stock filter housing in the 2003-2004.5 trucks. You just remove the stock LP and install the fitting....that’s it.

Go for it....its not hard....and you got me on here to help ya out if needed......

What part ya from in Texas.......we are having a North Texas meet the end of May......might be a good time to install a FASS? Check out the link to the North Texas Chapter in my Sig.......

razor6,

Dan is right it's not hard but involved. If you take your time and work your way thru it it'll be a no brainer. In fact at least 90% or more of our customers that buy a FASS from us unstall it themselves in the driveway!!

I installed my FASS in the garage at home. Once you have it all right in front of ya it's real simple to figure out. I would recommend pulling the right front tire and inner wheel liner when you do it, not nessecery but saves some up side down time in the engine compartment. My install took about 2 1/2 hours but I didn't have to drop the tank on mine.
Good Luck,

PS Your truck will appreciate you for the FASS, mine did.

Does FASS make a good, complete '05 kit for the intank pump? I also have a problem of constantly going off road into muddy places, and am worried about the FASS being exposed to mud/dirt and all that crap. Anyone have any issues with that, or has any suggestions?

Thanks.
