Injectors? Box?

04.5, 48RE, 4.10LS, 4WD
Leery of installing a box or usinf downloader due to warranty and engine longevity - how do upgraded injectors fare as a substitue? Looking for moderate hp and mileage gains, mainly bottom end to mid-range. And do I need more gauges than EGT? Thanks for the help - great board!

Upgraded injectors will cause the same warranty issues... matbe harder to detect. Injectors alone may cause the ecm to defuel without some boost fooling.

you need a timing box do get the most out of injectors on computer ran truck try something simple like the edge ez see if you like it and then decide if you want more power from injectors. egt, boost and fuel pressure are suggested on any truck if you have a auto then trans temp wouldnt hurt either

If your running a timing/ duration and pressure box stacked then its best to stay with stock injectors.

Jim,

Get rid of the factory muffler, and upgrade the air intake for starters.

If your going where I think you will probably end up... Spend the money on a tranny upgrade first. Been there, done that. My Edge EZ on my stock tranny was causing premature wear, caught it in time, tranny first. Also, you do loose allot of your low end grunt due to the factory torque convertor compensating for the torque of the Cummins, built in slippage to hold the tranny together. A new torque convertor and valve body with some sort of tranny controller is probably what you are really in need of. Best modification I have done to my truck, ATS Stage 3.

As far as boxes, the Edge EZ kinda helped in the mid area (stock), nothing noticeable in the low end. The BullyDog Pup, cured the lack of low end power. I had to set it up in the "extreme mode", stacked with the Edge EZ with the ATS tranny upgrade, will lift steer tires off of the ground, but at a cost... Swills fuel, like I do beer.

If you go injectors, check out www.jennettyracing.com 80hp injectors,$700 + 700 refundable corp deposit. You might also want to look at a FASS unit like the AirDog, if going the injector route. Better filtration and steady fuel pressure. You will also want a fueling box like the Edge, VanAiken or the incab adjustable Ramifier. Upgrade tranny.

Just my been there, all I wanted was a little better performance .02

I swear to you honey, no more boxes!

That is the biggest problem with these trucks when you have an auto tranny. Nothing is easy, and one thing impacts another, causing you to spend more money to hold it all together.
