infinity stereo replacement and canbus

what happens if you dont run the canbus cord? according to a tech at crutchfield, you get error lights on the dash, and lose door and blinker chimes, is that correct? Can you get that all fixed by the dealer?

You need to use the CAN adapter as there in not an acc. lead to turn on the aftermarket head.

go with the C2R-CHY, it will allow you to add any aftermarket radio, nav unit, etc with full features, (reverse trigger, speed sensor, Retained Accessory Power)

so the pac audio thin takes the place of the steering wheel control module for 150 bucks and the can bus cable for another 70 (220 total) That would be great. Any idea what it costs?

The C2R-CHY will give you everything you need to replace the factory head unit with any aftermarket head unit. The one I ordered was right at 100 bucks. I dont have the steering wheel controls, and this requires a few more adapters, but using the PAC harnesses its plug and play for a can bus system, no wire splicing.

Here is the basic layout 1. C2R-CHY for headunit control, 2. a canbus adapter for steering wheel control, 3. a specific radio control that interfaces the canbus control to whichever aftermarket unit you install.

For number two you will need a SWI-CAN ( here... http://www.pac-audio.com/products/pr...el%20Interface ) This harness plugs directly into the C2R-CHY. From the SWI-CAN you get the appropriate radio adapter which plugs into the SWI CAN and into the back of your aftermarket radio.

Basically what happens is the adapter to the radio is a wired remote control and the SWI CAN "interprets" the canbus data signal and makes the steering wheel controls and radio play happy so there is communication between the two.

Whole lotta stuff just to not reach over and fat finger the radio aint it.....

Thats if you go the PAC route, there are other options on the market, but I have had good luck with all of there products.

Not sure the cost of the other harnesses but Id guess in the 50 dollar range each.

ok, per crutchfield, I need the PAC SWICAN2, the PAC SWIJACK, and canbus cable for 75, 75 and 65 dollars each. I think thats the same stuff you are talking about right as far as I can tell.

You can turn the radio off & on with the left cigarette lighter lead.
I think it has RAP also (plug a cell phone charger in there to see and cut the truck off)

you WILL need the canbus for "dimmer" functions - the wire out of the harnees does NOT change voltage like they did on older cars.

cructhfield had 2 adapters when I put in my D3, and i did not get the VSS (vehicle speed sensor) on the cheapo. it doesn't matter, the D3 has internal IMU that computes all that.

if you are putting in a D3, make SURE to put a switch on the accessory lead, so you can turn the radio OFF easily. a D3 is a pain to "make it shut up" quickly.

04CTD

Well the D3 will work without the VSS hooked up but if you do hook it up you will have a lot more accurate navigation. (Spent a lot of time here also www.avic411.com ) I went that route with the cheapo and ended up getting the correct harness. The dimmer function is a must have cause the D3 was way to bright at night. I also have a reverse cam and needed the reversed trigger.

Plug,

your right the SWICAN2 is what you will need, Going with the SWIJACK I assume your going JVC, Alpine, Clarion, or Kenwood LOL. Oh and you can go the route suggested by 04CTD and tap into the cig lighter, but if you dont have a can bus adapter harness, your steering wheel controls will not work. Now he is correct about the cheaper harness that just supplies the RAP and a ground. It all depends on which head unit you will be going with but I myself if Im going to install an expensive nav unit ill get the equipment to make it function properly.
