II SPS66 review
I have seen posts related to surging with the II SPS66 and I have been asked whether I have any surging problems, specifically in the 1700-1900rpm range. I just don't have any surging that is noticable at any rpms. I have had the SPS66 on for almost 8,000 miles. Almost 1/2 of those have been highway only miles. Other than towing or hauling heavy loads I have been through most driving conditions including the race track 5 times. So I cant comment on towing/hauling heavy with this turbo, but otherwise no surging for me so far.
I do bark this thing quite a lot. Like Johnny said if I back off quickly from just about any 2/3+ throttle it will bark, and sometimes like a BIG DOG
. Been told a little barking won't hurt it, but it still makes me pucker up sometimes when I forget. I have become accustomed to driving with it now and only happens occasionally when I forget or the ricer wants mosquito fogging
.
It is slower to spool up than stock without a doubt, but I run most of the time with 100-120hp over stock settings on the boxes. I have enough torque and responsiveness without boost to make spool up daily driving a non issue for me. And when I do want boost it is there quick enough.
So far I am happy with the turbo for the application I am using it for.(NEED FOR SPEED)

Do you guys do much towing with the 66?
I have been lookig to upgrade my HTB2 62/12 for a while but with 38" tires and 3.55 gears I was concerned about towing the Jeep. I can drive around now with it set on 5x5 but I sure cant use it for long it tops 1500 fast so I obviously need more air. I have been concidering just doing a set of twins with the HTB2 as the small one and a HT3B and the big one.
But if the 66 works ok for towing I'll go for it.
Thanks
Dan

Just want to be able to get moving if my trailer is attached.

Around here our speeds are probably 65+ but with 3.55 gears and 38" tires @ 70 mph I'm at 1600-1700 rpm. I guess thats where my concerns are, if I'm puttin down the road with the Jeep in tow will I get enough air at that rpm so as no to melt it down.
I'll have to turn off the OD on the way home tonight to see where my rpms are at that speed.
Last time I was out towing we were at 85+ for a good two hours and I wasnt able to run me comp any higher than 2x3 or it just got to hot.
I WANT MORE AIR..
I havent regeared this thing because I use it as a commuter to a fro work, 120 miles pr day all freeway.
I know your engines are a bit differant than mine but a Cummins with the 66 on it should be compairable I'm thinkin.

Well, I'll let you guys know how it tows, because it feels **** good unloaded. I run around with the tst w/ early 03 twins at 4x4 and the mp8@20% or so. The fuel pressure really helps with the spoolup.
