Does adding a 62 to 66 size turbo help or hurt mileage that a truck currently gets? Does adding a 62 to 66 size turbo require new sticks to spool them up or are the stock injectors capable enough?
I to want to bump my turbo come spring time and I am looking at the SB line and trying to determine which one will work the best. I do not want to hurt my mileage if at all possible.

I am also wondering if my stock fuel system will be sufficient if/when I upgrade to a silver 62? Like I stated before I'm not looking for any crazy hp numbers, just a nice reliable upgrade from the stock turbo. So if I got the II silver 62 will that require a fuel system modification/injectors to support it?

On a stock truck or lightly modded truck a 62/12,13, or 14 turbo is what I'd get.

In my Aurora 3000 thread you thought it would be a good choice for me. Do you still think that? If so, do you think it would be better for me than SB 62? Or do you have an even better recommendation? Thanks for your input.

I had an off the shelf SB, dont remember what size it was, I think 66.

I think a 62 or 64 would suit you well, I just wanted to let you know that the turbos from II are NOT indestructible.

hope this helps

You can do it a couple different ways. You can install aftermarket injectors if you choose, or else you can add a good fueling module or programmer to supply the extra fuel to light it. But, one thing is for sure, you will need more fuel to help get it spooled or you might not like the turbo.

My Silver 62 lights quick, but I have a smarty, Cp3, and exhaust manifold. All of these items contribute to faster spool up.

OK thanks. IM sure they are not indestructible. But probably no turbo is. I would guess, based on my little knowledge of Turbos, that II Turbos are as good as any and maybe better than most though.

HT3500 blew his new SB 66 turbo at our last dyno meet. But at 935 with a shot of Nos.....I guess it wasn't really that big of a surprize..

No NOS for me...thanks.

I have been planning on getting a smarty relatively soon, and I will change the exhaust manifold along with the turbo. Sorry for the dumb question but what is the Cp3? I've hear a lot about them, but haven't figured out what exactly it is. Would the smarty alone be enough to spool the turbo quickly? Thanks for the help BTW.

The CP3 is the high pressure injection pump. The tank-mounted lift pump (aka transfer pump) feeds high volume, low pressure to the CP3 which feeds high pressure to the injectors.

Gotcha! So is this the pump mounted on the back of the fuel filter housing?

Nope! That's the lift pump! The '04.5 and earlier 3rd gens had the lift pump on the filter housing. The '05 and up have the pump in the tank. Sorry! The CP3 is mounted to the engine on the lower front of the drivers side. Clear as mud?

From your signature, I take it you're asking about the Jacob's exhaust brake. Yes, it will work, but you may run into a clearance issue between the vacuum pod on the exhaust brake and the firewall.

I ended up denting the firewall very slightly to keep the pod from slapping the firewall on startup and shutdown. However, I think the heater core or A/C components are not far behind the firewall, so don't get carried away.

In hindsight, a PacBrake would be a much better option for many reasons...

Adding a 62 shouldn't hurt much, but a 66 will. Maybe 1 - 1.5 mpg.

HAHA, Thanks for clearing that up. I'm still learning. I'll have to scope it out on my truck sometime.

Before you add a smarty and a turbo you should seriously consider a lift pump and transmission upgrades.
