Ideas for bed removal

I need to remove the bed of my truck to install my AD150. I was thinking of using five eye-bolts in the ceiling of my garage. One for each corner of the bed and one in the middle for a pulley. About how much does the bed weigh? This should support the weight of the bed, I think. What is the best way to connect something to the bed to lift it?

Its pretty heavy but I would get some hooks down in the stake pockets. You should be able to just move it back a few feet.

I am planning the samething as you... use the garage. I plan to pull the truck in close to one side of the garage and winch it up on pulleys with my 4wheeler. I plan to support the other side of the ceiling with a long 2x4 just to be safe. (My ceiling is trussed.)

I got it off with one other guy, just have a 2 saw horses to slide it on, Id say it weighs 400lbs tops, it not bad at all if you have meat on your bones.

Two manly guys can pick up a stripped down bed. With tail gate and trim I agree probably around 350lbs.

Raising it up with a pulley will be easier to reinstall with the AD installed. With only 6 bolts, fuel hose and tail light harness to remove it comes off pretty easy.

I used 4 ratchet straps and hooked them in the bed hooks in the lower 4 corners of the bed and lifted with my cherry picker. (dually bed)

I did it by my self. I put two rachet straps on the stake pockets in an x shape. I tightened them up the put a come a long on the ceiling and lifted it up.

I've used the rachet straps on the inside corner tie-downs and an engine lift to pull beds, works great.

4 straps to corners of bed lead to a come-a-long. Lay a blanket on bed front between cab. Attach come-a-long to re-inforced rafter in garage ceiling and stand in the middle of bed. Jack it up(and me too!) about 6-10". Roll the truck forward. Good luck!

I have to do the same thing, been kinda hesitant about it, great timing rock crawler. I have a 2nd gen, besides the bolts, fuel hose and tail lights, are there any other 'hidden' connections or pitfalls anywhere. I have to change my fuel sender. Good idea to put a blanket between the cab and the bed!!!

BTW any thing to check out, things prone to failure or problems, simple mods, etc while the bed is off?

I just had a few friends come over and we picked up the bed and set it on some saw horses. When I was done, they helped me put it back on. Pretty easy. I did the vent mod also.
