I have a fever.....and the cure is more whistle!
I'm with you though Pauly, I hate the cop-car hollow "rrrrrrrrRRRRRRRRRRR" coming from under the hood.... I may try and hack out that plastic thing today.
Can't have every other Super Duty "out whistle" me...
There we go! I think Quads on to something!
Man I was wondering if anyone was going to comment on the SNL sketch. I was beginning to think I was the only one who thought it was funny!
Pauly. Have you used an intake before?
The one on my hemi sounded like a airplane. It drove me nuts and I had flowmaster exhaust on the truck.
I'm tempted to try ****** and if I don't like it I'll just put my old one back on.
So I don't have to read through the 11 pages of ****** thread, do you get the air sound on that one or just whistle.
I'm with you on this one Pauly. I find myself hammering the gas to get the whistle up and then let off so I can hear it sing.
We've got problems!!

I've had intakes on previous vehicles but not the last two 'cause I don't like the noise. But I do want to hear that turbo sing!
Sooooo..... Where is the prefered mounting location? front bumper, roof? I imagine the decibles go up with vehicle speed? haha!

Yup, that's the sound. I think I will try to open mine up tomorrow also.

I think that is my favorite episode ever!!
PT I'm not sure if they have Hastings Book stores where you are but I was in one the other day and they have a T-shirt with Will Farrel and his infamous cowbell on the front. You would probably look great in it.ha ha ha

Paul..
This post nudged me to get out the basic tools yesterday and see if I could whip up some w h i s t l e. Here's what I did...
Loosened the hose clamp at the turbo, and at the filter box, and pulled the whole thing out. I seperated the boots and checked out inside the plastic tube to see that "X" shaped muffler that needed to come out. I could see that the "X" was built from 3 pieces, but I wasn't about to unglue the outer can, so grabbed a hack saw
. I undid the hacksaw blade from the handle, slid it through the tube, put the saw back together, and started hacking through the middle of the "X". It's a bit annoying to cut, but the "X" knocks out in 4 pieces real easy once cut through the center.
My very limited Fluid Dynamics knowledge also tells me that gasses prefer to swirl, so that white plastic flow director deal needed to go too..
I then drilled 2, 2" holes in the bottom of the airbox...
I also left in the silencer ring just to see what changes are made at each step.
I got a tiny bit more whistle for sure, but I think I'll be pulling the silencer ring in about 10min before heading out to the shop...
Cost = one broken hacksaw blade...

BTW, sounds GREAT with this setup having the silencer ring removed. I'm sure it could be more loud but I like this "moderate" whistle..
