Too late. I got an infraction for using a terrible word, that I had no idea was not allowed. Imagine that.

Thanks for clearing up the linking issue, Larry. I was under the impression that ALL links were evil. Now I know that links to images only are acceptable, as well as pages with no commercial links. That would've been useful information about six months ago. I'll go make a page that I can link to, because my sole purpose in life is to make sure I have a link in my signature on DTR.

By the way, you might want to get the Witch Hunters together... I clicked on a link in somebody's signature earlier, and there was a "search" box on that page. I typed in a profane word, and came up with several instances of ****. I can't believe that DTR would support this kind of filth.

This is why I choose to spend the majority of my "free internet time" here and not on the scores of other websites around the net, and I'm disappointed by some of the griping I hear (more often than ever now.)If I had big objections to a site as large as this, I think logically I should abandon it and find (or create) another one more suited to my tastes, before trying to change one that over 30,000 people are obviously very happy with.

Actually, I know several people that are not happy with SOME of the policies here. So, it would be more like 29,993 happy people, which is a far cry from the 30,000 you claim. Of course, if you are counting in Canadian numbers, then I think 30,000 would be an understatement.

I don't have "big objections." I have one or two minor objections that are really not a big deal. The only reason I even said anything in this post was to warn others so they wouldn't get sent to the corner with a dunce hat like I had been in the past. Then I asked Larry to clarify exactly what the rule is about linking, which he did, and now we all understand. That's what it is all about. Previously, I was just told "no links in signatures," period. Now, I see that some links are acceptable, which I think is great.
Now my only outstanding complaint is about helpful links in posts, but I can see both sides of the coin. I just choose not to help people now, when they ask for a link, because I don't want to get in trouble with the man upstairs (referring to Top). My current issue, as of a few minutes ago, is what words are vile and what words are not. Obviously, the common bad words are truly bad and shouldn't be on the forums. But what if you take the first word in this sentence and add an extra "t" to it? What if you, then, add the four letter word that describes what you hit a golf ball into on the putting green? Is that really that bad? Apparently it is, because I received two points for that one. And I used it in a jokingly manner, complete with the little laughing-face guy:

Maybe I need to order up a copy of the DTR User Manual that outlines all of these things for me. It just seems that the rules stretch and change when needed, in my perspective. I am probably totally wrong, and I'm sure I will be told that I am, but I swear I have seen people use that same word before and not get warned or edited.

Try making yourself aware of the forum rules, that would solve most of your issues here. Then try removing the obvious chip from your shoulder and you may find things a great deal easier around here.

As stated earlier, your complaints all stem from ignoring the original warnings you received from us regarding your advertising links. They were removed and you then put them back.

They were removed again and you then tried using a hidden link in your signature, which was also removed and you have been complaining ever since.

Had you not tried to skirt the forum rules in such an aggressive manner, we would not even be having this discussion. You broke the forum rules on purpose and as such the blame can only lay at your own feet.

that was pretty harsh...pretty sure he wasn't talking about his purpose in LIFE, but (without the 2nd t) he was referring to one of the main purposes of this site!!
ya'll have a great site going here...heck, i don't even have a ctd anymore, but this is one of about 3 sites i frequent on a regular basis. i come here to learn and also help when i can. ya'll (the HNIC's) come across sometimes as end-all, be-all's. all i'm saying is that sometimes there are more tactful ways to go about things without seeming to be the 2nd coming of Christ.
hope this doesn't step on any toes, just trying to offer my observances.

D...u get u'r website up yet??

Dustin, when you have to keep repeating the same thing over and over again to somebody, it is easy to get cynical, even when you are trying not to.

Things are already easy enough here. I completely understand the rules. Some people can say a word that I can't, and I get that. If you don't believe me, use the Search feature and search for the word you edited in my post earlier. I got 9 different instances to come up.

THIS is one reason why you feel like you have to explain things to me over and over again. I see the double standards, and I don't understand them. I guess that means I have a chip on my shoulder.

As stated earlier, I was under the distinct impression that ALL links were not allowed, as we discussed it, via PM and in public view. Now you come back and say that some are allowed. How long will this new interpretation last? Had I been told, or even had the opportunity to learn, that links to photos or links to pages without vulgarity or commercial advertisements were allowed, we wouldn't even be having this conversation right now, as I would not have made the comment that all links were not allowed. I suppose that is my fault, too, and the chip on my shoulder interferes with my ability to read minds.

I would not and did not purposely break the forum rules. I can't break rules when I can't even keep up with them.

The only time I remember my signature being modified was when it was edited and you sent me a PM, stating that it was removed because of the ad in my signature. 7-17-06. My first signature was the exact same one I use on every other forum I'm on. My name, my personal site, my forum, my vehicles, in that order. I assumed the "ad" was for my forum. So, I put another, different link in my signature (direct link to my CTD page on my personal site). That was poop-canned with no explanation. It was then that you explained to me that links were reserved for supporting vendors only, only after I started a thread in the Feedback portion of the site. Then that thread was locked, by you, after you felt the discussion was done. I was nowhere near done, but you had the last word and locked it so nothing else could be said. And now here we are.

This was all after I was warned for a "personal insult" that was questionable, when I told somebody that they had no idea what they were talking about. Instead of an explanation to that warning, I got a temporary ban. I mention this incident because it is one of many examples of how you, Larry, refuse to deal with issues in a manner that would create less headache for everybody. The only other time I was warned by somebody else on this site, that mod simply sent me a message and said that cussing was not allowed in the forums, with a link to the post in question, and a small portion of text copied directly from the site's rules. I wrote him back and let him know that I understood the warning and apologized for it. He wrote back and thanked me for having a good attitude about it. It was a very simple way to communicate about what had happened, and we both ended the deal on good terms. This experience was very different from what you and I have gone through. It could have been just as pleasant, if you would handle it differently. Of course, it would have been more pleasant if I just nodded my head and accepted the double standards, too. But you didn't, and I don't.

I will say, on your behalf, that you were very friendly and easy to work with on the issue of me being issued the temp-ban. And for the two infractions I have received (link in a post, and bad word in a post), the messages sent to me were easy to understand because of the link to the post, and a copy of the particular part of the rules I violated. It is when something is edited without any explanation, that I become confused and irritated. Perhaps I expect too much, I don't know. It is also irritating when I get warned for something, and others don't. It is irritating when I try to help another member, and get an infraction. These are the issues I have. None of them have to do with you, personally. None of them cross my mind once I log off of this site. I do not have the chip on my shoulder that you perceive. I am simply standing up for common sense, in my own mind. I would walk up to you right now and shake your hand and buy you a drink, if I could, because none of this is personal to me. I am not sure I can say the same about you, after the latest infraction. It feels as if you are "out to get me" now. I guess that is what I deserve for disagreeing with the boss.

Common sense would tell us that a rule is a rule, and it is set in stone... not twisted around as needed.

Common sense would tell us that if certain words are to be considered vulgar here, when they are not considered vulgar anywhere else in the United States, except perhaps at learning institutions for children under the age of 8, then those words should probably be outlined somewhere.

Common sense would tell us that when members have to resort to private messaging in order to communicate about technologies available for our trucks, just so they do not receive infractions, then perhaps the purpose of the forum has been defeated.

Common sense would also tell me to just shutup (I hope that isn't a bad word) because it's very obvious that I am nothing more than a pee-on (vulgarity? I'm not sure) here and my opinions don't matter. I should just keep my mind shut, fingers tied, and simply agree with everything that goes on, because my opinion is not valued, nor are my suggestions considered. I am a trouble-maker, because I don't agree. And because I don't agree, that makes me wrong, automatically.

I don't agree with that, either.

By the way, there is a "hidden" link in my signature now. And when I click on that link, I am only one click away from vulgarity, and two clicks away from ****.

I expect this thread to be locked after Larry's rebuttal, and if it is, I apologize to D.Wiggs for ruining his thread.

This thread has gone to H e double hockey sticks in a handbasket. Hey everyone, just a thought, but lets drop it and think of the holiday season. Remember all the people that are out of the country in Iraq and other places that would love to be in our places, learning about our favorite trucks, and not fighting over a link or not to link. Sometimes, I find (after a few months on here) that things seem to go downhill fast on here. It becomes a drag.

Merry Christmas to All

It is YOUR responsibility plain and simple to abide by the Forum rules you agreed to when registering for this site, it is NOT my responsibility to continue to babysit you through the issues you bring upon yourself by your own actions.

Nothing has changed except your perception, you were told you could not have advertising links in your signature so you went off telling people they could not have ANY links in their signatures.

Once again I will suggest you read the Forum rules, by doing so you just may save yourself a great deal of discomfort. I have told you repeatedly that if you have an issue you can send me a PM to discuss it, but you prefer to do it in a way that disrupts the forum.

I won't blindly sit back and tolerate it, you need to decide to either use the forum within the scope of the rules or go somewhere else.
