Hypertech 174 Hp?? Really??

i just read an ad for a new hypertech programmer that claims + 174 hp on an '05 ctd- and they claim you can tow on the 174 hp setting... all for $375. i once tried a hypertech product on a 2nd gen i owned about 7 years ago and it was the least power i ever got from any tuner/box i have ever tried. just wondering if anyone knows anything more than just what the ad says.

It's pretty new so I don't think too many guys are running it yet. I can't imagine you can really tow safely at that power level unless you have a lot of other mods too.....

kind of figured the same- i just wonder how accurate the power rating is until i see actual dyno numbers. but they are offering a 30 day no questions asked return policy- and not mailing back to them but can return to place of purchase. if the 174 hp is true that would put it near the level of my bdtd crazy larry or smarty but for $200-$300 less.

Most of the hp/tq claims by these box/programmer mfrs are at the wheels. I think that if you have the $$$ then the SMARTY is the best thing going right now if for nothing else other than it is untraceable. I wish my Predator was like that. I would keep your crazy larry unless there is something you don't like about it. My Predator put me at 452hp/870tq with my bigger turbo and there was another guy there (2-stroke) who made a few more hp and tq while running the Crazy Larry as his only mod. My Predator is rated at 180hp on the highest setting. SMARTYs are putting out a bit more than that too....

sounds like good advice... i guess i was just wondering if hypertech really had a bargain priced high hp tuner or just another over rated under performing $375 paper weight. btw what turbo are you running as i'm looking to go to a larger turbo that is very streetable and can handle occasional towing-for now no new power mods planned except for some 40 hp sticks.

I have an HTB2 62/12. Works very nice driving around or towing. It's a bit laggy if I'm not running my extra fueling though....
I got my Predator for less than that Hypertech and I'm really happy with it but it does not give me all the options that they advertise. I got it for the power though so I don't really care.......
I wouldn't mind finding some nice sticks for mine too. Momma will kill me though.......

Then I wouldn't believe anything else they say in their advertisements either. We all know you can't tow for long with a stock trans/clutch at 450hp.
