HX-40 on an 06'

I was told by brandon at Industrial Injection i could probably get this turbo to work on my truck, but it would actually lose power. Kinda iffy to me. How would increasing air and the volume of air be a horsepower inhibitor? Just wondering if anyone else has tried this on an electronically wastegated engine. I can pick up an HX-40 for near nothing. Id like to cool egt's some, and im certain it would gain some horsepower as seen on 12 valves. turbo lag shouldnt really matter to me.

I would take the OEM 06 turbo over a HX40 anyday...

Look for a 62 or 64 "new" style turbo that fits your needs.

HX40s are pretty fragile turbos, on top of that, 3rd gens are easy on turbos, they can spool them pretty quick. That's a combination i would definitely stay away from.

I think he is trying to say that 3rd gens are NOT easy on turbos. If you do some heavy fueling on the truck, it'll probably snap that hx-40.

ive heard the same thing that they are easy to trash. I dont think you would benefit from it. like cquestad said look at other aftermarket turbos. an hx40 is a good turbo for a 1st gen but not a 3rd gen

Thank you! Yes, you are correct, i was trying to say... 3rd Gens are NOT easy on turbos. HX40 + 3rd gen = bad combination IMO.

For one thing it wont fit. Two, the HX40 has a smaller inducer diameter than your stock 06 turbo, so it would be a step backwards.

Sometimes you just have to pay the piper.....

Thats cuz its worth near nothing.

The turbo came off of slower spooling and in most cases lower HP application and they were tightly controlled even then.

Old technology, your stocker is much better.
