Talked to HTT today, and they suggested the 62/65 over the 62and 64/71. Will this turbo allow me to break in to the 500s with an Airdog, Con OFE, and 90hp stix? Truthfully, if I get to 500 I'll be happy, just need to be able to tow about 15,000lbs every once in awhile. Thanks in advance guys. Help me pull the trigger on the right one.

That's the turbo they recommended for me, too.

I know it won't cool 500hp on the street, but it may get you there on a dyno. I think I'm going to get one and eventually use it as a secondary in a twins setup...

 

Wellll, heck...I just don't know what to do. If I gave a little extra motivation, like a mp-8 or x2, would a 62/71-13ss spoolup fast enough to tow good?

The other thing, will an exhaust manifold be needed seeing it is a bit heavier?

 

Most likely the reason they recommended the 65 was because of the amount you tow. The 65 mm exhaust wheel will allow better spool up for towing, but will sacrifice some power and top end performance.

Personally with the smarty and you having a 6 speed, I would not be afraid of going to a larger charger such as a 64 and running the 71 mm wheel

64/71/13 would be a sweet set up. . BTW- no need to upgrade the manifold for the weight

My bro has a set of 90hp sticks, Bullydog Triple Dog/ TST stacked, ATS manifold, 62/65/12 on his 04.5. That thing flat out runs & spools faster than stock. He tows 15k# & It is a great combo. Sets BDDL on performance & TST on 1/1, temps are well in check.

 

Well I have that exact turbo (HTT 62/65-13ss) on my 2003, and with just a TripleDog (programmer, rumored to be on the weak side) and Quad race (pressure module) it spools just like the stocker. I mean it spools now and runs very well. I drive 140 miles a day on the highway to/from work and tow 8k once in a while and it drives very well, zero complaints there. EGTs are the same as what I saw on my stocker cruising around on and off the highway, boost pressure seems to be the same as well.

I am planning on buying some F1 injectors in the next few weeks and I won't be upgrading to twins in the near future. I was leaning toward buying the 62-71, or even a 64-71, but they talked me out of them as well. They said I can upgrade it to a 71 for $300 and I figure I can use the turbo for a nice set of twins if need be someday, so what the heck. I needed a turbo in a hurry anyways.

Rick the 64/71/13ss Set at 48psi will suit you very well. You'll love it it's very cool and not all that laggy. I was able to tow 11k with stock fueling and this turbo. That should tell you enoungh. Then when you want twins you'll have the cooling lloyd has

You should post what psi and egt you see at 55-75mph cruising with and without a trailer when you get that. I'm very curious.

I have the 62/71/13ss and it spools great running empty. If I load up it is a little laggy but I am afraid to keep my foot in it starting out until my tranny upgrade. A set of sticks and a smarty will more than likely spool it like stock loaded up. I have the auto and it is just about right on as far as spooling the turbo with a heavy load. Just a little more fuel and I should be there with ease. Just waiting till after I upgrade the tranny then I will get started on the lag issue loaded. All I have is a Quad Std. so that should tell you you should be right on the money when loaded.

 

I have the 62/65/13ss and love it. Spools fast and runs cool. Unloaded at 85mph, I'm at approx. 8-9psi and around 750 egt's. I have my wastegate set at 45psi and will hit that quick. Good turbo. I got mine polished on both ends, looks great. Also did the ATS exhaust manifold at the same time.
