Im looking at a 2005 2500 with 40s on ebay, How bad would fuel mileage and tire noise be with this truck ?

Well that's kinda of a loaded question. It all depends on how your going to use the truck, obviously it's useless or pretty close to being if you plan on towing a gooseneck, if you just want a trailer queen or mud truck then your already there. I would say if it's not regeared or have a programmer your mileage is going to be close to 12mpg or so. Since it's a stick that will help (lower gearing than an auto) and if it's got 4:10's even better with those big tires. Most likely, depending on how you drive you'll need a clutch as well pushing around those big tires.

I'm wondering what's been done to the truck, does it have a body lift? Reason I ask is, it's got a huge spacer under the intake horn, maybe they deleted the grid heater?? With the amount of mods being done to diesels now adays' you'll want to look it over closely, especially since it's lifted, you never know what the previous owner has done to it...

That truck has issues. First of all the tires are bald in the rear anyway. Have you checked to see how much 40in tires cost for 22in rims? Yes I saw they are ordering 2 new tires but the fronts aren't great and they are at the point where they get worn down fast. It does have a body lift, and there are a couple of cheap fixes for things that were not addressed by the kit itself.(cheap dryer tubing for the intake extension). Its missing lug nuts, so that is a small indicator of the previous owners maintanence abilities. What makes the lift kit custom? Could it be the random zip ties that have been added?

The biggest question I would have is why the previous owner did such a shoty job of rattle canning the entire undercarriage of that truck just prior to the photos. How ugly was it before? Because that fresh paint will be gone in a few months. Also you might want to find out if the speedo/odo was re-calibrated because that 54k miles might actually be alot more than that.

 

Just the fact that something like that is sitting on a dealer lot is a big red flag to me.

 

To me...that truck would be useless. It would drive worse than a loose stock truck and be impossible to load stuff in the bed. Let alone the other issued mentioned.

It's sitting on a lot because nobody would buy it from the original owner who decided just to trade it in for a new truck. Then the dealer realized what a pos it was and wholesaled it off to a used car lot so they didn't have to pay to fix all of the issues that had to be addressed before they could safely put it up for sale on their lot.

I know this because I traded in a lifted truck(with worn ball joints,tie rod ends, shocks, and pretty much everything else that the 37in tires destroyed) for the one in my sig. A month after I was talking to the salesman who sold me my truck and that is exactly what they had to do with my old truck. I got more for trade in then I could get trying to sell it on my own to a private party.

I saw a grid heater delete/extension, and i also saw some "programmer" connectors on the injector wire harnesses i take that and the bald tires as a BIG red flag

 

not a delete. it has a bodylift on it and when doing so you have to raise the horn to keep the alignment correct for the boost tubes since the intercooler is raised and the radiator stays in the factory location

 

I don't think it is even a 2005. The Cummins logo has red writing on the front fender. That tells me it is a 2004 or 2003. Didn't the 2004.5 - 2005 325/610 have an all black Cummins logo? I would not buy it, seems the dealer or who ever is trying to sell it doesn't even know what they have.
