How to run on a Dyno...???
Like the title says... I have never put a vehicle on a dyno, and I am hoping to later today. Do you stand on the throttle from a stop, or do you roll up to about 45-50 and stand on it? Tow haul on/off? I know I'm not going down a track, but should I unload any weight out of my truck? (I have about 500 lbs in tools in the back...)
Any advice would be helpful. Can I spray if someone has a cheater bottle somewhere? Just blow it in the intake?
TIA....

Yes put tow haul on the key is to keep the rpm's up and not let the tranny shift into over drive... you will run it up to around 60ish and get it spinning and then when you have a goood baseline they will tellyou to mash it!!!!!
when i dynoed mine i took it to about 50 then hammered it. with tow/haul mode my truck would go into o/d betwen 76 and 78 mph by the third pull i knew when to go and when to let off. you will like it, its fun make sure to post your numbers when you get done!
Well, I imagine its' too late for today, but this is how you should do it in the future.
Tow/Haul on so it won't go into OD. Get it into third gear and up to 55mph so the TC locks. Ease out of it until you are about 40mph and then when they are ready, mash it and hold it to redline.

The operator ran mine... I was happy with what it put out. 808.88 tq and 435.15 hp. Not too bad with the mods in my sig. I tried to get the guy to let me spray in the intake, but he did not want me that close. Maybe I'll have it hooked up this time next year... I got a vid to post, as soon as I get it up, I'll post it.
Thanks for the responses.

Madhat, Congrats on your numbers!
I disagree with some of the other posters though about locking out O/D. Mine has always been successful running in overdrive and running it up to 70mph +. Then hammer it. At least in my case, it won't shift down.
It may make a difference rather you are on a Mustang dyno vs. a Dynojet or some other brand. Personally, I haven't had much luck on a Mustang. All my runs on Dynojets have been very consistent....and run the same way with o/d on and 70+.

The last time I dyno'd my truck the only way we could get it to hook up and get boost was to do it in overdrive. It gets the same number, just different way of getting it

I assume that he left it in OD, cause he ran it up to about 110 mph. It was on a dyno jet...
See the break room thread in the other section for my dyno page...

... and if you're looking for #s (not actual street RWHP) swap some light wheel/tire combo on the back. DJs are inertial, so heavier wheels and tires will hamper the engine's ability to accelerate the rollers. Also, smaller diameter tires offer a mechanical advantage (think gear reduction) on the drum... just make sure they strap ya down real hard to avoid traction issues.
There are also lots of tricks to get good #s.
Good luck getting anyone to tell you what the are
But one that I have seen a few people do is,
Unhook there brake lights,(so know one knows what there doing) bring it up to 70 mph, back down to 45ish, apply the brakes to build boost as you mash it, release brakes around 65mph. (with autos). This shows good #s on the graph, and you can some times spike the dyno and show really good #s to brag about.
